I found a new type of mouse trap

We have a bunch of mice around the buildings at work so we trap them but I decided to start shooting them because its more fun This mouse started coming out of some pallets the last couple days to eat the seed the birds spill from the feeder. Yesterday was his un lucky day. The mouse didnt know I was waiting for him to show up This one was from 18 yds and it was lights out with the BSA S10.

It was only a couple inches long so it would have to be a very small rat. there isnt suppose to be any Norway rats in this part of MT and very few where it says they are in MT. Here is a pic of the after math.

This is true. But you would be hard pressed to find one in this part of MT. This isnt a rat at least not a norway rat. I dont know if young norway rats with hair are 2" I believe they are larger than that. If you look at the video and compare its size to the end of the 2x4 the pallet is made from you can see just how small it is. How small are young norway rats that are old enough to have hair and come out to forage? Based on pictures it looks to be what is called a house mouse. Very long tail thats scaly not hairy and same size and color.

That's a vole guys. 
Similar to a field/house mouse, with the main difference being the vole is a bit wider/fatter and has smaller ears.

Harry it could be. The only problem I have with it is that there are several things that dont match up. In the vid you can see it appears to have small ears like a vole. I dont know if mice lay their ears back at all. Inspecting the dead mouse/vole it has a long hairless tail and a long nose with big eyes. All the voles I have seen in this area all have short noses, smaller eyes and hairy tails. I cant inspect the ears better cause the top of his head was removed and the ears went with it lol. The pic makes the nose look shorter cause hes facing down but its fairly long and you can see that in the vid. The ears are the weird part and in the video when it walks out it almost looks like it doesnt even have ears.

My cats catch allot of voles at the house but I googled vole just to see what different species look like. There are some with longer noses that appear closer to a mouse but I think they all have hairy tails. I dont know but im thinking mouse based on the rest of the body features.
