I have received two messages from owners & greatly appreciate their input. The search did not reveal much info about this rifle so I am hoping for more. If you have this model & could share your thoughts please. Info about caliber & why you chose the 22 or 177. Likes dislikes whatever, please share.

After watching a YouTube video of a man in Portugal shooting his with a custom stock it has really captured my interest. Having loads of fun shooting the ones I have but guess I have the sickness of one more, then one more. It matters not that I may overlap what I currently have so please share why you like or dislike. A few decades ago I sold my HW50 after a year and "traded up" by buying a HW35 directly from Beeman. Personally, the "35" was a disappointment after shooting the "50" because the "35" was larger, heavier, had a rather heavy cocking effort for the rather anemic power output judging only by "penetration through tin cans". Actually, the only difference I saw between the two was the weight, cocking effort and the really nice Rekord trigger of the HW35. At the point of pellet impact between the two I could see no difference. Still, I "soldiered on" with the HW35 buying upgrades parts from Beeman like a synthetic sealed piston and various Beeman offered "gobs & goos" to kill twang and make the gun shoot smoother. After about 20 years of use the thumb actuated barrel latch had worn to the point that it wouldn't reliably latch the barrel in registry, however some careful filing of the sloped latching surface removed the "notch" that was worn and restored the function for the remaining years I owned the gun. The articulated jointed cocking lever also started gouging the stock inletting so I installed a metal plate to deal with that issue.

After 20 years the spring had sagged badly so I got in touch with "The Spring Man" Jim Maccari (recommended by a Beeman tech person) to see if I could get a new spring with more power. I was told that the large receiver diameter coupled with a rather short stroke limited the power output of the HW35 and any power increase would come at the expense of an extremely harsh shot cycle. I bought a complete tune kit from Jim back then and was amazed at how nice and smooth the shot cycle was and my power was once again restored. I didn't own a chrony in those early years so I had no idea of the velocity, only that Beeman listed it at 755 fps. LOL....I was sure that my velocity was increased by the addition of the "highly recommended by Beeman" synthetic sealed piston and new spring kit, however after finally buying a chrony I found that my velocity with .177 RWS SuperDomes was only 680fps!

Not long after respringing my HW35 I ordered a new Beeman R10 (again from Beeman) and after receiving the gun I thought it was as good as I thought the HW35 was bad! The gun didn't weigh any more than the HW35, was more accurate, and the R10 would put a pellet through 3 tin cans in a row! LOL.....I soon bought a Maccari soft spring kit for the R10 and after installing I had a twang and vibration free springer that shot 7.9 grain pellets at 910fps and I finally had the velocity and flat enough trajectory for squirrel hunting past 25 yards! Initially I was counting empty tins and boxes to get a handle on spring life and after 20,000 shots the R10/Maccari spring/R10 was still spitting out 7.9 grain pellets at 905fps! Since the R10, it's been R9s (and a recent HW95 purchase) ever since with a short session where I bought a Crosman Quest, a Gamo440 and a couple Chinese B3s! The B3s are long gone, the Crosman Quest and Gamo440 were literally "landfilled" on my property in West Virginia out of disgust! Oh I forgot, I also owned a HW77k for about 20 yards that I used only for field target matches, however since I usually used my R9 for field target shooting I also sold the "77" a couple seasons ago!

Anywhoo....back to the HW35..........
After using the R10 for a while I listed my HW35 on Brad's an airgun sale site and got a few "tire kickers", plus those that wanted me to chop the $150 offering price (a couple decades ago) so I gave up on "internet sales". I took the gun to a Mid Atlantic Airgun Show (used to be held at the DIFTA field target range at Damascus, MD) and saw a fellow shooting an old beat up HW35 at the "testing range" and he wasn't pleased with what he was shooting. I asked if he would like to try out my HW35 with Maccari spring. After getting the gun from the car trunk and letting him shoot the gun he IMMEDIATELY opened up his wallet and handed me $150 cash!

LOL....I can honestly say that I don't regret selling that HW35 one bit!

I have a 7 and 9 both in SG stocks and tuned.
I also Have 35E's in 177 and 22.
I find myself shooting the 35's as my gun of choice - not that I'll dump the other 2.
No need to restock
They will get a tune as all springers should
Still breaking in but accuracy is there.
Enough power for my needs - If I need more the 9 can handle it.
I like the size and feel ALOT.
In the end you have to shoot it.
Mine are going nowhere.

I bought an R7 this summer. What a pleasant gun to shoot! If the 35 is anything like the 30, then it should be sweet. Thinking of an R8 and an R9. If you need power, then just get an R1.

I was actually shooting both the 35E and our HW30S, yesterday.

There are, of course, similarities, but don't let the fact that both models start with a 3 fool you. These are two very different guns. The 35E has more in common with the full size guns like a 50 or a 95 as far as size and weight. The HW30 is dainty by comparison. The firing cycle on the 35E is different than just about any other HW, too. It has a distinct snap to it. I'm still breaking in the 35E, but finding that I have to constantly tighten the stock screws, more so than on our other HWs. Despite its relatively moderate power, have to wonder if this thing is a scope eater. Not an issue, since I'm sticking with a peep, for now.

My 35E would also loosen up stock screws. Mine had a 1/8" gap between the rear of the action and the stock. I made a semi-circular shim, the diameter if the action, out of layers of duct tape and positioned it in the gap so the screws pulled the action tight into the shim/stock. No more loose screws after that.
The US market 35E is nothing like the 30s. I do also have a 1975 35 German domestic (low power) Freimark model that is very smooth like a 30, but, of course, larger and heavier. It is extremely accurate. The newer 35E not so much.

Have a 35 myself ... Indeed a larger & heavier gun with just modest power.
Built like a tank being Very very solid gun !
Accurate is it's strong suit being able to hit whats aimed at inside 40 yards No Problem.
Snappy shot cycle indeed having IMO the fastest lock time of any of my springers.
Mine is fitted with a Williams peep rear of receiver and OEM hooded front.
JSB 8.4's it's preferred fodder.

Heck of a gun for a mid power rig !

I really like mine. I like the full size. I like the quick shot cycle. Of course I like the walnut stock. Really a nice rifle.

My HW35 is 1978 vintage and it's the lower powered Freimark version in .177 cal. It is accurate and a pleasure to shoot. It is looooong and heavier than my other spring guns but not so much that it is unappealing. It gets shot the least of what I have. I love the classic design and the thumb lever breech lock just adds to the classic feel for some reason. It's definately worth owning but personally I prefer my other rifles over the 35. You may feel differently about one.

The 35 is on the far right.

Just an update.

Have been doing a little shooting in the basement with our 35E and, while certainly accurate enough, could do without the noise level in our confined area and though no powerhouse, I don't need that much power for 10 meter work. Of course, I didn't get the 35E for indoor work, so not really a negative in my book. Do enjoy it on our outdoor range.

I wish HW would make a target version of the 35. I am thinking an HW98 stock with a shorter bull barrel (or sleeve like a HW98). I like my 35 just the way it is but a second one in a dedicated target version would be interesting. I really, really like the ultra quick shot cycle of the short stroke. I know HW won't ever do this but it would be cool.

The HW55 would be very close to what I am asking. Just start making a modern version. They won't though with the HW98 in the line up. The 98 is one heck of a rifle and I am not sure my idea/suggestion could improve on the 98. The R11 (Hw98) is the best shooting spring gun I own. I have had the pleasure to shoot 5 others, two older and three made in 2015, and all of them shoot equally as well (spectacular).

Both my HW55 and my low power (Freimark) HW35 offer the same level of accuracy and smoothness of operation.

The HW35E is a really nice Airgun Rifle. But you need time for her :-) After a few thousand shots, you too will be best friends :-)

I like the shotcycle of the HW35, however, the benefit of the short shotcycle is being brought down by the (to long imho) length of the barrel. The barrel is so long that it is hard to keep it on target. Now that is my experience with shooting an HW35 from a friend with open sights, I'm not sure if the barrel lenght and balance is being compensated when you will place a scope on the action.

Otherwise, like mentioned before, the HW35 is built like a tank and seems to last for ever
