Opening Day

Yesterday was opening day for squirrels here on Long Island and since it's my tradition to always hunt opening day I grabbed my .177 Beeman R-9 Goldfinger, a packet of the JSB Exact Express pellets that the gun loves and headed for the squirrel woods down the street from my house.  I would've preferred to hunt the early morning but my truck is not running right now so I had to wait for the wife to get home in the afternoon so I could use her car..... so my hunt started at 2:30 in the afternoon.   

I hunted until sunset, saw plenty of nutters but only wound up getting 1 shot, which I cleanly missed.  That nutter jumped up on a tree stump not more than 10 yards from me and I was so excited about the first shot of the year that I completely forgot to adjust my POA for the close distance.  All the other nutters I saw for the rest of the hunt outsmarted me, but it was great to finally be able to prowl the woods for nutters

Glad you got a couple this morning Dave

I'm looking forward to my next trip into the woods.  Gonna set up a nice ground blind, get comfortable and try it that way.  The same nutters that were carelessly all around me  the times I've been down there this year bowhunting have now become ninja nutters.

You got out there brother and that's what counts too. I'm sure you'll be bagging some soon. Squirrel season is here also and really need to get out there and start doing my part to fill the icebox. Ed

Better luck next time Jeff.  I am sure you enjoyed going into the woods.

I was shooting the Diana 48 .22 today and man is this gun accurate (tuned by John in PA 3-4yrs ago).  I tried new pellets (in the 48) for the first time - 2 H&N and 2 JSB, and were all very accurate @ 25yds with a slightly different POI.  I forgot how light the trigger is too (around 1.5lbs)..  I was surprised to get hole in hole time after time, but that was from a rest.  Shooting off hand at critters in the woods is much more difficult, so if you missed with the R9 I am sure I would have missed with the 48, so don't feel bad   You 'll get them.  You always do.
