Mac1Airguns sells drooper mounts that seem to have more correction than most and I checked into nearly every one on the market. My droop was so severe he didn't have a stock model that would take it out, he'd have to make a custom one.

So I didn't bend out all that droop, I mounted my scope with the supplied RWS droop mount then bent so I was on target with it. That worked and was hard enough. And for someone who's never done bending and stumbles onto this thread, if you're using the Bending 101 jig you have to remove your scope and take the stock off to bend the barrel. Then put everything back together, shoot a couple shots to check, then take it all apart again for the next attempt. Very, very tedious if you're trying to ease into the bend amount.

Unless you're OK with the forked tree trunk/door jamb method but I wasn't. I want control and wanted to be sure I only bent in one direction. I thought about keeping everything together on the jig but the potential to mess up my scope and stock was too great especially after finding the clamping pressure flipped everything out of the jig.

A couple other things I did/noticed that weren't mentioned in the Bending thread: I put a piece of wood under the flat side of the breech to make sure the cylinder didn't roll with the clamp pressure. And it easily will just a little, then you're adding windage.

Second thing was that you have to get the clamp at exactly the right angle so the heavy pressure doesn't flip the action right out of the jig which happened several times until I thought through the best place for the screw foot to go. Directly opposite the top foot wasn't that place.

The flipping didn't show up until I had to put the big pipe wrench on the clamp screw to get the necessary pressure. Even then I started keeping one hand on the action while tightening the clamp. If I ever have to do it again I'll make a jig that uses a bottle jack - much less effort. I thought about it for this one but was in a hurry yesterday and didn't want to take the time to build it.

Forked trees might be easier and quicker but I just couldn't do it. If you're anal, you have to deal with the trouble that comes with that mindset. :-)

Anything can be halfast, but if you want to 'get it right' it's likely gonna be more 'tedious'.

Yeah I understand wanting to do everything perfect but sometimes you have to set a practical limit based on the quality of the end results.  I could tell you that you really didn't control it 100% and to do so would need a precisions vise and calipers to measure the radius of the bend, but it's one of those things where you get diminishing returns for the effort you put in--you wouldn't notice a difference in other words.  The nice thing about a door jam versus a tree is that the door and the jam are nice square degree surfaces, so it's a lot easier to get a more precise ballpark in terms of holding the rifle straight up and down to make a lateral bend as opposed to a diagonal one.

I actually like the amount of control a door jam gives, but to be honest there's a lot of force being involved.  If my tablet hadn't broken recently I could take pictures of the edge of my door where it has little "scallop" marks where the steel literally depressed the wood with the amount of pressure put into the bend.  So it really might not be that practical to do repeatedly, that's the plus I see with building one of those rigs.

That people with far more expensive guns with much higher accuracy requirements use the tree fork methed is a HUGE clue that this is a low stress issue, don't pump yourself up for our benefit those of us who know, well, we know better and we have said so...repeatedly

I keep telling myself i need to make series of basic gun tuning videos showing all the valid tips i have learned from this site...so when a basix topic comes up somebody can say go watch this video or watxh video it's on point for what you want to accomplish...



And yep after a few yaers hanging around bere even barrel bending now seems "basic"

Sorry for offending you. I guess airgun newbies should just shut up and read. Comments are only allowed when a certain level of airgun jedi-ness is reached. Ezman604 probably should have contacted you to see if it was OK before posting his helpful Barrel Bending 101 tutorial.

He really should have used a tree fork instead, since that's what users at your level with expensive, high accuracy guns use. But of course he hasn't been around airguns long enough to know that. Why bother with a jig if a tree fork works just as well. Tom Gaylord with Airgun Academy must not know the best way either. You probably ought to let both of them know so they don't make needless work for themselves and others.

No matter what anyone else says or has experience in, when you start doing something yourself it can be a bit stressful until you have a handle on it. And thanks to some on here as well as Tom Gaylord and exman604 now I have a handle on it. No one else had their PO meter set off the way you did but most that posted were genuinely helpful.

I wasn't pumping myself up whatsoever, just sharing a few experiences I had and my feelings about them. My comments certainly were not for your exalted benefit but for the benefit of other newbies who might wander onto this thread when they try to learn about barrel bending.

No offence here, I thought the same as you about bending my barrel at first, that is why I made a jig. Not that big of a deal now but I will still use the jig. I am sure it was the same for anyone else, after all bending a barrel does sound extreme at first.

HYspd, check out the B3 you got from me. You might be able to see the bend I put in that barrel to get it within the limits of those welded on iron sights. Also if you bend the front sight post back a little it will raise the POI. You can bend'em sideway a little for windage.

How's that PCP you got from me doing you?

Lefteye next time you see tbat B3, check it out..I straightened it out so i could scope it....when the rear site  was removed i notoced it was jamming on a bent mounting bracket and wouldn't elevate for beans..


As for the dear me, just do it post.....If I had been that demanding of what is presented in the archives of this site, I'd still be stuck with a whale oil.dripping Benjamin that shot dinner plate groups at 10 yards...

Lefteye...but but but, i LIKE my tacticruel black plastic super gizmacho stock...it's one of the few i have found with enough air space to cram a pound or so of hyperglobular recoil repellant duct seal...and the pistol grip doesn't cause that bizzare thumb blister that the factory Titan thumbhole stock will after a hundred or so shots in a row...
