Can the rear sight on new Benjamin 392 be easily removed?

The rear sight looks like it just snaps on.  Can it be removed easily?

It's not bad but it is somewhat interfering with what I see through the Williams peep sight.

Very easy.
Use a wooden dowel and a hammer and easily tap the sight in either direction until it escapes the contact with the two wedges under the sight between the barrel and air tube.

Can also use that dowel, punch or whatever to just knock it off from the bottom. Place the punch under the edge of the windage adjustment end and tap it with a small hammer or similar from the underside and it will POP off. Either method might do a small amount of damage to the finish.

Sliding it off the wedges will scrub the finish and knocking it off might make a tiny scratch on the barrel.

I just did one over the weekend. I used the first method. The only sign I saw was a small mark in the black which probably happened when they put it on. I rubbed it a bit with my finger and you can barely see it. Careful not to get the wood against the barrel and be careful not to slip with the hammer. Maybe even some black tape or dish rag to protect it.

I have removed several of them and all have left a slight silver mark. Use the old "go to" which is a black Magic Marker to dab the mark. You would be hard pressed to find it afterwards. A trick that many gunsmiths use. (Though they might not admit it )

Shoot at stuff in the yard through an open window! Or down the hall into that last room on 2 pumps! Put a stack of old magazines or newspapers in a box with an X on the side of it!

This same trick works when sprucing-up old guitar amp tolex. There are surely many of my old springers that have a bit of MagicMarker or Sharpie ink on them somewhere.

That new 392 shoots great with the Williams peep sight.  I can't see any damaged spots on the finish from removing the original rear sight.  Maybe there was still a bit of lubrication on the original sight so that it slid off easier.  Anyway, the gun sure shoots nicely now.

Fairly tight grouping at 20 yards considering how few pellets I've put through the gun so far.  Once it's broken in and I'm shooting the best pellets it should do quite well.

It should be ready when the seasons open in about 6 or 7 weeks.

Be sure to do some practice shooting in an environment similar to where you will be 'hunting'. Outside, the target backgrounds and lighting will vary. This variance in lighting and contrast gives me fits when using peeps. In good lighting with well lit targets can I hit well with peeps. In hunting situations, not so well.

I prefer accented notch and post opens on pumpers.

Mine is not a 392, it is a C9A but it shoots better with a peep than a scope for me.
I guess because my M1Garand and M16 had peeps.

Terry, my rabbit hunting area starts just outside the back door and side door.  My squirrel hunting area is about a 5 minute walk down the property line or the low maintenance dirt road that starts just east from the end of my driveway.  I think the peep sight will be fine for rabbit hunting unless it's too early or too late and the light is dim.  The open sights on my Sheridan will be better in the timber for a while.  Then I'll try the peep on my 392 in the timber.

Anyway, I currently practice in my rabbit hunting area.

I'll be okay.  I've been hunting for over half a century so I'm sort of used to things.
