Bought My First Muzzleloader

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share that I bought my first muzzleloader and I'm pretty exited about it.  It's a .50 caliber CVA Optima V2 in camo stock. I feel there is a great deal of similarity between airguns and blackpowder guns.

1. Both are primitive weapons.
2. You only get one shot (for most airguns).
3. Pellets and BP bullets look somewhat similar (no casing... etc.).

Dose anyone else own and shoot muzzleloaders? Do you find them similar to airguns?

We use muzzleloaders exclusively for whitetail in MN. The CVA is a good choice, I think you will be pleased...we just picked one up for the youngest brother for his graduation, and after shooting it we were all impressed.

There are a lot of similarities to airguns, mostly the one shot and increased challenge. One thing that is not similar is the trajectories. With these modern muzzleloaders and high quality bullets, you can hunt at ranges that approach some center fire rifles. I highly recommend checking out Precision Rifle, they make the highest quality sabots for muzzleloading rifles that I have ever used. Take a look at the BC and longe range testing for his products and I think you'll be very impressed.

Yup have 3 CVA's from the late 70's,  all kits Kentucky rifle ( flint lock), Pistol and  a derringer(Percussion caps, all 45's) never hunted with 'em but fun to shoot. Oh yea and a cannon replica of the ones on old iron sides

Also have a optima v2 with the camo thumb hole stock.     Have a nikon slugger 2-7x32 200yd BDC scope on it.

I use 100gr of loose 777 powder, Winchester primer and  TC XTP 240 sabots

Great gun IMO, trigger is amazing for a low price gun (much better then the TC encore prohunter my uncle has) and just all around is smooth operating.   

Just need to get a deer in my sights now
