New to PCP - MAC1 .22 Disco coming Thursday

Thanks in advance for answering some very elementary questions from a newbie. I'm a longtime shooter but this is my first serious air rifle. I have a moderately good 4 -12X scope (that I used to use on my .17HMR) which I plan on using, mounted high enough to load the pellets. I already have a refurbished pump with a desiccant filter.
1. What do I need to do before shooting?
2. I keep reading that the barrel should be cleaned first; is this true?
3. Some mention GooGone; is that OK to use?
4. I'm ordering pellets; should I assume that the JSB's will work well in my Disco or do some Disco's like other pellets better? Most of my shooting will be at targets with the occasional groundhog at about 30 yards.
5. Are there any other questions I should be asking?

If it's coming from Mac1, there shouldn't really be anything to do before shooting; just shoot a string as is to get a baseline. You can decide whether or not you need to clean the barrel once you get that baseline. As for pellets, I haven't gotten to shoot the Disco I just got yet, but out of the dozens of reviews I have read, I haven't found few if any that said the JSB 18.1 grain pellets didn't do well, and they are definantly going to be one of the first I pellets I try once I find a pump. Also, I have read several people saying that in their guns CPs may marginally edge out the JSBs, so that could be something else to try.

My disco hasn't been tuned but it seems to like JSB exact jumbo heavies (18.13 grains) the best. I shoot Crosman Premier domes and hollow points (14.3 grains) more often and they are only a little less accurate and a lot less expensive. I do clean my barrel about every couple of tins; just dry patches using a weedeater line to pull through. I mostly plink cans steel targets but I've pushed this little gun out 130 yards or so and hit more often than I miss. If you didn't get a brake from Mac1 you'll probably want to look at the tko, this gun is loud without it. Best of luck I'm sure you have fun when it arrives.

Get the JSB sample pack. I think there are 50 of each weight.
CPHP shoot well out of mine, slightly under the JSB 18s, but well enough that the squirrels didn't know what hit them.
I've tried a few others but nothing stood out. About to open up a tin to Polymags, but they are so expensive, I almost hope they don't do well...

Hi Dave, first time buyer cant go wrong with a Mac 1 prepped gun! Tim makes it easy to fall into this habit.
I own two discos, one mac 1 and one Benjamin. I have found CPs out to 30 yards shoot well, however I believe Tim has his guns tuned for JSB 18.1 to shoot in the 820 FPS range. If you can get a hold of him he will explain a few things about the gun you are buying. I had the pleasure of talking to him on all days, Easter Sunday. I learned so much in that half an hour, not only on air power but the history of his shop and some of his other hobbies. Don't expect that kind of time IF you get a hold of him, He is a busy man. But someone at the shop will explain your gun and how it's tuned. They also stand behind what they sell, I have first hand knowledge of that also!
Have fun and keep us posted, Chris

Thanks to all for your replies. I'll order a tin of JSB's & just shoot it without worrying about cleaning the barrel. I'll also order a JSB sample pack.
