Thinking about this again: When you cock the rifle, is it smooth or not? My understanding about coil springs is that when compressed, they rotate a small amount. If there is a burr on the end of the spring, that may be causing a bind when the spring is unsprung as the ends of the spring will rotate. If the spring is getting caught in rotation, that will give you a torque recoil, noisy and harsh, and may be why the scope is rotating. IF it were mine, I would check with the Mfgr. and see about a return and replacement. If you are not worried about warranty, I would take it apart and polish the spring ends and check for a smooth bearing surface for the spring. I probably don't know what I am talking about, but seems reasonable.Good luck!
I've had more than 1 set of poorly machined rings. Bought a 30mm set a while back and scope was loose, no matter what i did it even tightening it all the way down the scope was still pretty loose. Measured the gap with it tightened all the way down with calipers and it was 34mm at the largest point and 32 at the smallest.

I believe even if a high-spots issue is at play - odds are that the gaps will show up something fishy. Maybe stacked feeler gages to check, or just a caliper Also, have contacted Leapers and asked if they can lap the rings if I send them back. Answer was no - but the guy writing back did ask lots of questions and hinted they may send me out a new set of rings. I'm still working on the wife where spending more on the bottomless pit is concerned about buying a lapping kit for 30mm...Thanks again Matt, I'll post the measurements if I get the chance to do them this weekend (having a sweet 16 party for the rugrat )
If the rings are the right ID then the tube should not be happening. That being said a de burr polish and lube tune should cure that problem I certainly solved my scope killer D460 Spun the Reticle on 2 scopes before the lube and tune Just make sire that you se burr and polish the spring ends also
