12 fpe tune on the R11

After trying and failing multiple times to get more speed out of her, I threw in the towel and went back to a 12fpe tune.  Here are the first 3 chrony strings:

This puts the FPE right at 12 (12.17), shooting JSB 8.44's.  The rifle prefers 10.34's, but I'm out of them and my PA order won't get here until Monday.
So while I'm kind of bummed that either I don't have the skills to bring her up to a higher fpe, or she's just not built for it (while I was able to get the speed up, the shot cycle was terrible and chrony readings were inconsistant), I'm very happy with her performance at 12fpe.
The TX is still a work in progress....

What all have you done to it?  Have you honed the receiver tube?  Just curious.  Don't be too disappointed, 12 fpe is a great place to be, especially for target shooting.

Nothing wrong with 12 fpe.  Those numbers look good.  An SD of three or better is good.  I have a TX at 12 fpe and it shoots very nicely.

Brett-the shot cycle is smooth and quiet...just a nice thump.  I didn't hone the tube, just the usual de-burring and polishing of all the metal to metal surfaces (to 1200 grit), JM Hornet spring, new oem HW spring guide, shortened to make room for the extra-long delrin tophat.  JM old-school piston buttons, everything lubed with krytox and the spring very lightly tarred with JM heavy tar.  I did use JB bore compound to polish the bore, which surprised me by giving me another 15fps.  I also honed the contact surfaces inside the Rekord, and replaced the spring under the second-stage screw with a lighter one left over from a Timney trigger kit.  The only major thing I had to do was straighten the cocking slot..it narrowed at one point and I opened it up by filing it then polishing to 1200.
Now all I need is for my PA order to arrive with the 10.34's and I can see what she'll do on the target.

I've gone the same direction with my R1.

Just did not like the shot cycle at factory power levels.  Too harsh.

Dropped in a Vortek 12fpe kit and it shoots very well.  Just as accurate within 25 yards as my R7s.

FWIW, it took about 500-700 shots for the Vortek kit to settle down.  At first the power was close to 14fpe and now it is stable at 12.5fpe with JSB 10.3s.

May be a good idea to check your power after a tin or two of pellets.

My R11 is next on the block to be tuned. I will ask for a better shot cycle, as opposed to my R1 which I asked for more power. I did a 30 shot string on my R11 & got the following:

The R11 is my most accurate spring piston, the R1 will be the most powerful, HW97K is my favorite, FWB Sport is the lightest, & the TX200 was my first quality rifle. See? They all have a place in my gun cabinet.

Awhile back(October I think) I dropped JM a message that I'd like a smooth sweet easy to cock kit for my HW98. He told me what to order and he'd send me what I asked for. What I got was something that was a perfect match for what I asked for. Feels a touch more powerful than my 97. IIRC the 97 was kitted with a Hornet seal very lightly sized(in laymans terms:a very snug fit) and a Hornet kit that I swapped an XLD R6 spring onto. Unbelievably smooth and accurate- I never cared what the chrony read. fwiw because some will ask, it was 725 avg with a 2 deviation. 10.8 fpe. Some may think otherwise but I think "Perfect".  It is the gun I will take with me. While I haven't chronied the 98, my real feel guess it is right at 11.5fpe with 8.4gr pellets (a slight bit more when using CPL's). My targets never care what the power level is and the squirrel and starling toll has risen vastly. I may have to take it along with the 97 imho 11-12fpe is the place to be in this platform.

After going through everything I could think of, I have to agree with you on the 12fpe "sweet spot". 
My PA order arrived yesterday, and today we've got snow (!) and wind.  Figures.

No shooting last night...my wife dragged me out shopping for clothes for the upcoming graduation/wedding schedule.  It seems my plan to wear what I already own was simply unacceptable.
Just wanted to share my pain.

Finally got out this evening for some shooting.  First, I ran 50 shots over the chrony just to see where she was at:
All shots were JSB 10.34's.
String #1 (10 shots): Average = 726, ES = 15, SD = 4, FPE = 12.10
String #2 (20 shots): Average = 728, ES = 13, SD = 3
String #3 (10 shots): Average = 725, ES = 17, SD = 4
String #4 (10 shots): Average = 726, ES = 7, SD = 2
Good numbers, so I moved the target out to 50yds to see what I could do.  9 groups of 5, best was 5/8", worst was the first group at something like 2-1/2" due to the first shot flyer going low.  With the target "ruined" at the first shot it took some of the pressure off, lol.
I'm sure the rifle can do 5 MOA groups at 50, I just wonder if I'm up to the task!
