Stupid Scope Question

When using a scope with an illuminated mil-dot reticle (Hawke):

Can the scope be used "non-illuminated"?

(In case it's not obvious, I've never used an illuminated scope)

Yes, the light only illuminates the inside of the tube.

If you are not going to illuminate the cross hairs or store the rifle for long periods, remove the battery to keep it from leaking and damaging the scope. The illuminated scopes are great for dark backgrounds, low light conditions and night shooting. All my centerpoints are illuminated with color options of red or green. You can also control the brightness as well.  Most of the time I will use my scopes without the illumination.

As stated ... the illumination is JUST an aid so help you see reticle in poor light or on difficult backgrounds.

Get a supply of CR2032 batteries ..... I forget, and leave mine on when I use it ... then again, you may not be a moron like me!

If you have a dollar tree store nearby, they sell the sunbeam brand 3 for a $1 and work just as good as the expensive ones, you have to check regularly for stock they go fast.

When the illumination is not on, the crosshairs are black, i.e. they look "normal".  You can adjust the illumination by increments of brightness.  Generally I do not use the scope with the illumination "on" but it can help in low light conditions.  You will like the Hawke IR scopes.
