BSA Airsporter MK2 Questions
«

I have a rebuilt MK2 and was wondering what I should expect the muzzle velocity in 22 cal should be. Also would like to mount a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40mm scope, but am having difficulty find mounts. Any suggestions would be great.

It's hard to predict the MV of this rifle without knowing a little more about it. How old is it? Was it made for the UK market? It may well have been originally a 12 foot pound rifle with a leather seal.

The MK2 was made between 59 - 65, and for the UK market (as far as I know).

The power level of the rifle when new is probably less than 12 foot pounds. At 12 fp a 14.3 grain pellet (a typical weight) will go about 600 fps. While it may be possible to use a more powerful spring, it must be kept in mind that the rifle was designed to operate within certain power-level parameters, meaning it might not handle a much stronger spring.

Thanks for the info. Now to find scope mounts. I understand normal 15mm mounts will work on the 17mm groves that are on the BSA MK2. We'll see.

For 17mm dovetails, see if you can get Sportsmatch Model TO50C rings

Found source in England for mount TO50C, only about $35. BUT, shipping = $60. Search continues.

My old BSA Airsporter .22 cal shoots 13.8 grain round head pellets at : Average FPS 449.82
Extreme Spread 34.9FPS
Energy , Ft/ Lbs 6.2
Zero is 10 metres and again at 15 metres with only minimal rise between the zeroes .
POI is 10mm below sight line at 19 metres .
This is pretty good for an old rifle , I shoot rabbits in the head frequently with it ,,, and they dont run away.

Found some 17mm x 1" mounts on eBay for $8, shipped to USA. They are from China (?), but for the price I think it's worth a try. Should be here Tuesday, I'll let you know.
