RWS 54 at 75 yards

So I tried my 54 at 75 yards. I used a 2'x2' piece of about 1/4" wood as a backing. Testing pellet drop(.22) and my results were as follows.

HN ftt roughly 9" drop.
Jsb exact jumbo match roughly 10" drop.
Surprised the crosman premier hp has only a 6" drop.

The crosman and H&N sounded like they hit the wood much harder than the jsb jumbos too.

All pellets blasted through the wood at 75 yards.

Some of the groups were darn good I think for using a cheap old 4x32 scope. All would be inside an apple. Slightly smaller some.

I tested penetration on a piece of solid maple hardwood floor scrap and it went in the depth of the pellet only. The skirt was flush with the wood. At only a foot away. Maple flooring is extremely hard though. My .22 mag will go through maybe 3 pieces at 100 yards though lol

The Crossman pellets have a very high BC.  They just fly well.  I did some tests in the early 90's.  My Diana model 48 and my R10 in .177 shot that pellet better, flatter, than any other

Read somewhere that the hollow point hole acted like a flat spot, causing more drag than a round nose and heavier pellets are suppose to retain their velocity because they should have a better BC.

Would be interesting to know what the muzzle velocity is of each one.

I was surprised too. I thought the same thing, that the hp front would create more drag. But all the shots were about 3.5-4" higher then the two others tested.
The crosmans fit much tighter in the bore too.

H&N FTT in .22 weigh 14.66 grains;  JSB Exact Jumbo weigh 15.89 grains.

What are some other pellets that may shoot great in my RWS 54?

H&N and JSB are two of the best brands of pellet. I would try the RWS Super H Point if you are a hunter. I used them in an XS46U that I had (23 fpe in .22) and those pellets did damage!

What different jsb pellets are good? I have the jumbo match exact. What a mouthful. Does that just mean they are heavier then regular exact match pellets? I noticed H&N has a bunch of options as well

Bisley LRG shoot very well in my model 460.  Repeatedly shoots nine out of ten shots under a nickel at 30 meters (100 feet).
