Sun Optics Adjustable Rings

Does anyone have experience with these rings? I bought a set to mount a Leapers 4-16x50 AO on a weaver rail. When I got them out of the package I noticed that some of the holes were so badly over-bored that the screws didn't even engage the threads, and those that did were so loose that even a little tightening would strip them out. I debated sending them back, but a gift card meant that I'd only spent $10 on them, so I got my HeliCoil tools out. Well, one thing lead to another, and when I was done I had installed locking HeliCoils in EVERY hole! Since I only had standard sizes, a quick trip to Fastenal's web site got me the 6-32 cone pointed set screws I needed and I was in business. I now have solid engagement on all the screws, and the 'locking' feature should eliminate the need for loctite. I really like the way these rings can be adjusted to account for BOTH windage and elevation, but the quality control on the ones I received was SERIOUSLY lacking. Is this typical, or can I risk buying from these folks again?

I didn't have those problems with mine.  I did strip the heads on all of the mounting screws which I promptly replaced.  all the adjustment screws were good.  haven't touched it since I set it up 3 years ago.  its been on my trail np that long.

I've had a set on my Nitro Venom for almost two years.  There were no oversize holes and the only stripping I did myself.  I won't use Loctite on them again!!  Initially the screw sat too high in one ring and damaged my scope.  Sun has since fixed that problem.

Not a fan. The whole setup seemed rather chintzy to me. Of course I had planned on using the mount on my HW90........Back in the package it went, oughtta return it instead of leaving it sitting here.

I am far from an expert, but when I look at this mount I think it would be suitable for a low power springer or something with very light recoil.

And like Roadworthy I also saw a screw/threaded rod that would sit too high and be into the scope. The entire thing just seemed like something that might have been a good idea but they never really tested it? Or I got an old one that was sitting on a shelf.

 IMHO what these do having going for 'em is they will gimbal or cant to prevent scope tube damage. Sometimes you get a lemon that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth and you just have to spit it out.  You only get one first impression,  if it's a bad one, you can move on, or take it up with the retailer or warranty to get satisfaction.  I would have returned 'em for refund or warranty. I think it's commendable that you repaired the rings and used 'em.  Seems QC on these are a gamble?

I have them and have had them for about 5k rounds though my trail np.  and I have on occasion even used my scope as a carry handle and they have held up.  if you got a bad set I would think that you just had some bad luck.  unless im the one that just happened to have good luck.   anyone else have a bad experience with them?  someone who actually used them not just took a look and sent them back because they looked cheap.

and replacing a few cheap screws is hardly what I would call a repair.  they cheaped out on the screws, so what the rings themselves are solid

Unfortunately I got a bad set of Sun Optics adjustable rings myself...

Saved up for a set of FX No Limits rings and haven't looked back.

The set I got, worked great.  I was scoping a Talon for 20 yards and was able to center the scope.  No stripping of screws.

It seems these rings are a mixed bag. I like the concept, and the design seems to be fairly robust, but the quality control, just awful. Several of the screw holes were so badly over-bored that there was no thread engagement AT ALL. If I hadn't had those HeliCoils  tucked away I would have been left with no choice but to return them. I'll use them again, if the need arises, but I'll keep my HeliCoils handy!

I purchased some the Sun Optics Adjustable rings and also had problems with the screws stripping out, etc. Sent them back and they sent me two different kinds in exchange...they are still in the packages...have never bothered to open them.
Instead I went to MidwayUSA and got a set of the 1" Burris Signature Rings and also a set of the Pos-Align Offset Inserts for them...these work like an absolute dream. The inserts are 10, 20, & 30 degree I believe...they go inside the steel rings and allow you to adjust your scope to allow for windage and elevation adjustments so that you can zero your scope and keep it optically centered at the same time. Absolutely simple to use. A little pricey but just like the scopes we buy the rings for...there are no good "cheap" scopes or rings! Best of luck!
