Crosman Marauder Magazine Failures

I have both the Marauder rifle and Marauder pistol.  I have had two magazines fail, one on each gun with less than ten fills on either.  The spring tension just fails.  This especially not worthy on the pistol because they only give you one with the gun so when it goes you're done.  I hope this failure rate is unusual because I'm not keeping the guns if it's not.

you can easily repair it.  open it up.  the spring angle needs to be more then 90 to about 100 degrees. I bend mine like that and it has not fail me.  or just call Crosman, they'll send you one for free.  repair that one, then you'll have two.

Can't stand that magazine design, will have to buy a few spares for the pistol just to be on the safe side

cheap at $10 a pop for marauder rifle mag.  compare to $90 for BSA and $80 for FX.   FX is the same design also.  I figure I can buy 9 marauder mag for one BSA mag.

I've never had a problem with either of my 3 Mrod mags and the 1 mag they sent with my Prod is ok so far.  I did however order and just received 2 more Prod mags so I'd have a couple of spares.

You know this a little off the subject,but I can't figure out why the P-rod pistol costs almost as much as the rifle?

The chances are they are going to sell less m-rod pistols than rifles...
After all the more of something yer can sell the cheaper yer can sell it....
but the prise will prob drop....they are just making money while theres intrest in
a new product at the moment...

Labor costs more than materials, and it's about the same amount of material in each, anyway. Lopping inches off the tubes wouldn't create much of a savings, and it's about the same amount of tooling and labor to build either. They do have a neat new trigger design.

Also, in their line of products, there would be considerable liability insurance built into every product.

In any case they are pricing to market, which means they look at the other PCP pistols out there and see what the market will bear. Their job is to make as much money as they can without hurting sales. Looking at the competition in this market segment right now, they nailed it... again.

Talked to Crosman this morning and they are sending replacements.  I am returning the defective ones so they can look at them and determine the cause and maybe prevent future failures.  Thanks for the information to those who provided it.

I haven't had a problem with the mags, but the pistol magazine seems flimsier than that on the rifle. I think it was Jay who said his replacements seemed more substantial than the originals. I can see where they'll be an issue.

Thats exactly what I did. I bent the angle to about 100 degrees and no more failures. Crosman also sent me a new one for my PRod.

I just had the first failure of a mrod magazine. It was brand new and the spring jumped on the first loading. I already have three others so I thought I would try to fix this one myself. Easy peasy. A small hex key and the cover is off. Bend just a little more angle into the wire ends and put back together. I had to guess on which hole to use but there is only three so after a little trial and error it was back together. Has worked great since. We will see if it holds up. I expect it will now.

Had one Marauder magazine spring jump.  Crosman sent another, I fixed the old one, and ordered some new, and a scope sunshade.

Just had another Marauder magazine spring end pop out of its hole.  A new one, to boot.

Think I'll bend the end at an angle/offset, and try that.

I did a visual experiment; I wound all the magazines from zero, to lock, and looked at the spring end depth in each retaining hole, during the windup.

Without fail, the spring end in all three backed-out of their retaining hole some, in relation to how much tension was on the spring.

Two suggested improvements; make the spring end longer, so it doesn't back out of its retaining hole (the magazine rear cover may have to be thicker, to accomplish this), or prebend the spring end at an angle, so it doesn't slip out of its hole as easily.

This issue is common, despite all the glowing reports of fail-free magazines, on the web.

I have one that has not failed actually, it won't fit in the slot any longer. You would think they would stand up to a bit of chewing by a Golden Lab without deforming, wouldn't you?  ;-D

I've had two of 4 springs jump on my magazines.  After I reset the spring in the magazine, I  mixed a little epoxy and injected just a tiny bit into the back hole that has the spring going into it.  Wait 24 hours... Done.. No more problems.  At. All.  Just a tiny bit, or you might lock the entire magazine from the inside.

I tried it yesterday... AWESOME!!! works perfect... I am still ordering 3 more mags from crosman and i'll modify all of them...
