So I broke down and got myself an HW30S. After putting around 40 pellets through it she began misfiring and the pellets were no longer landing on the target. Every 4th or so landed dead center then it would start misfiring again. It almost sounded like it was dry firing but the pellets were not falling out. Since it was less that an hour old I sent it back to PA and they said they cleaned it. I had already cleaned the barrel but hopefully they went deeper. Anyway it's back and it's beautiful. It is dieseling a bit but I'm sure that will pass. No twang at all. I have a Vortek spring kit waiting for it but she is firing so nicely I can't bring myself to open her up. So the kit will wait until it is needed or the dieseling doesn't go away.

Since she is such a tack driver I made a tack target for it. (If you do this I strongly suggest using pliers to insert the tacks, don't ask how I know.) Now I will attempt to attach a photo to show it really did happen.

Also thanks for the picture!!! I have heard about using thumb tacks for targets but I never really visualized it. A picture really is worth a thousand words!

I have my R9 dialed in enough That I've been shooting pennies @ 15 yards. The problem with that is the small strip of wood I cut a groove in to hold the pennies. If I hit low the wood takes a beating and I'm sweeping up wood chips.

I'll be making a visit to Staples tomorrow. That is if it ever stops snowing

Unrelated.... Your avatar shows a kayaker and you are from MA. My wife and I spend many weekends kayaking around Cape Ann and other spots along the North Shore. Where do you kayak?

Hey Paul,

I am down on Cape Cod. I mostly kayak in Buzzards Bay. At one time I kayaked all year around but that ended a few years ago. Now I shoot toy guns in my basement... lol

My R9 was the tack driver until the 30S came along. It's an amazing little rifle.

Looking at what German springers you already own, it was time for you to finally land an HW30.

I'm glad it got sorted out and turned out be be so accurate. Good timing too so you'll have something to do while the snow is piled up outside!

Congrats on a wonderful rifle.

I shoot air guns for score and group size in our basement range on almost a daily basis, this time of year. Even though I shoot better scores with our pneumatics - pumpers, single stroke and PCPs - I find myself shooting our HW30S a disproportionate amount of time. It really is an addicting little rifle and it's only made my addiction to springers worse. I can't imagine anyone who loves spring piston guns not having one.

By the way, ours loves H&N FTTs.

Following your lead, I took the cats and my R7 outside this afternoon (sunny 72°) and tried some H&N FTT. No joy!

My R7 so far likes Air Arms 7.33 domes best of all.

+1..... BTW the JSB 7.33 are just as accurate , cost less and are cleaner and yield fewer bent skirts than the AA's.

Same here. JSB RS 7.33gr is THE pellet for my HW30S. It shoots all pellets very respectable but the JSB 7.33 grains are on a whole different level.

I have only tried the JSB Exact Express 7.87 and I'm quite happy with those pellets.

Here is the chrony report from the first 10 shots that I put through the brand new HW30S. Now that I have about 500 into her I will have to chrony it again. Yet another blizzard going to dump 14-18" of snow on me this weekend. Will be a good time to spend in the basement range.

Looks to me like those are beaded straight pins, not "thumbtacks". Shooting straight pins is a whole 'nother level of accuracy!

Yea it is very satisfying seeing them just disappear leaving a nice clean hole behind.

I like to plink off empty 22 rimfire brass. It's fun doing that, seeing something disappear with the shot. If I get to feeling like shooting is going really well, I will lay an empty 22 brass with the opening toward me and try to see if I can put a pellet inside without damaging the edge of the brass. The problem is trying to find the brass to see if a pellet is inside.

I have hit a few of them while shooting from a rest. Plinking the standing brass offhand is a real challenge for me. I'm kinda shakey.

With about 2' of snow on the ground, you fella's are sure teasing me for my warm weather small tomato paste tin can knockaround fun. I haven't found my HW50S any less accurate than my R-7, and the 50 is in .22, my only. Have fun RC
