Hi Folks,
I am trying to estimate the age of a Gecado/Diana Modell 60 [GISS system] .177 target rifle. I am getting the impression that there is no definitive listing of serial numbers in relation to dates of production for Diana rifles in general. The rifle in question has a serial number 658***. I do know that this model was made between 1963 and 1982. Would anyone have an idea of the approximate date of manufacture of this particular rifle?
Thank you,
Jim
[I have found further information that suggests the Model 60 was only produced at Rastatt between 1960 and 1968.]

I love the model 60! Utterly recoilless modern mechanism, combined with old-time styling and build quality, all in a nice compact size. The checkering and wood finish on the guns is especially terrific and puts some more famous makes to shame.
The model 60 was indeed succeeded as Diana's TOP match model by the models 65 (1968), 66 (1974), and 75 (1977), BUT...it refused to die! It was retained as the company's junior/low-priced alternative for many years. It actually completely out-lived the models 65 and 66, and lasted well into the era of the model 75. I have seen one from 1983, and own a 1982 one.
Dianas of that vintage typically have the date of manufacture stamped directly on the left rear receiver. It's in tiny characters in "MM YY" format.
I have 2 model 60's, and in addition to the date stamp, the first two digits of their serial numbers correspond to the year of manufacture. So the number you quote may well indicate it was made in 1965. The "date" serials are 7 digits long on my guns, but earlier ones might be less? My guns are "Hyscore 810" no. 6723xxx (dated 08 67 on rear receiver); and "RWS Model 60" no. 8236xxx (dated 08 82).
