Finally took the plunge

My wife bought me a rifle for Christmas but of course I had to give her some advice.  Read a lot of posts about the various models and it became obvious I was taking my chances with my choice.  Went with it anyway and bought a Benjamin Titan NP in 22 cal.  Up to now I've put about 30 pellets thru it and I'm not displeased so far.  Have just been shooting at objects in the backyard to get the scope close and playing around and now I'll be moving on to some targets.  Got my fingers crossed that I'll have one that shoots well.  I do know that I need to run down tomorrow and buy some blue locktite.  Also looking into a new scope but not sure what I'll go with.  Been looking at variable power models by both Centerpoint and Barska both of which have variable reviews.  Unfortunately, at this time I don't have the bucks for a higher end scope.

Hello Kirk, nice gift. I have one and it has been fine once I found out how to hold it. If I can feel the front two mounting holes my hand is in the correct spot. I'm using the Centerpoint 3x9 40 AO and have been happy with it and it is holding up well. You should enjoy your new Rifle as long as your Wife does not try it and won't give it back.

Thanks for the reply Don.  I don't think I have to worry about my wife, she just shakes her head and rolls her eyes about my hobbies but overall is okay with them.  As for the hold, I'm guessing you're referring to firmly gripping the fore stock instead of just resting it in the palm along with moving your hand back and forth to find the best position?

Good on your Wife. No on the griping it, if I can feel the two holes I know that is where to rest the stock. No griping it. that was the hard part to learn.

You may not need the loctite for the stock screws until you decide to remove the screws.  I got my titan a few weeks ago and after 180 shots the screws are still tight, so maybe Benjamin has started using loctite.  Of course you will still need loctite for the scope screws.

Kirk, you may want to take a look at the Hawke Sport HD line of scopes.  I have two of the 4x32's and they have been good scopes.  I also have a 3-9x40 on my Diana 48 which has withstood around 2K shots.  It is very clear and the adjustments are very crisp for such an inexpensive scope.

I have a Crosman Nitro Venom .22 with a Centerpoint 4x16 40mm scope, it was purchased in August and have put about 500 rounds through it, everything is still good and tight. I have Centerpoint scopes on most of my air guns. Can't beat the price, $70.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.  I really appreciate you all allowing me to pick your brains.

ejc, after reading on how jarring these rifles could be I decided to check all of the screws.  I checked the screws that attach the barrel to the stock and was really surprised to find them both loose.  When I took them out they had some blue loctite on them so not sure what was up.  Wasn't a lot there so I gooped them up again and reinstalled them.

LAalex, all I can say is WOW!!!  I have heard a lot about the Hawke scopes and they sound like they are very good.  I checked your link and was blown away by the price.  Buds selling that scope for about 60% of what it goes for everywhere else.  Any idea what's up with that?  Factory reconditioned???

I got myself a Hawke also.  $70 at PA.  It's a 2-7, which I think is fine the range of the gun.
