Question about the bolt on my .177 M-rod

When I pull my bolt back to advance another pellet, I have to place the butt of my rifle on my thigh and pull with a lotta force to cock it. Is it normal for the cocking effort to be that high? I've been watching guys on videos cock it as though it easy. I'm a really strong guy so, Is it me or is it something wrong with the rifle?

check the bolt on the lower left side of the breech.  I had trouble with mine also and that fixed it.  If I remember correctly is was loose.  Sounds counter productive but it fixed mine

Yes, that sounds like it. Mine did that as well. Even with loctite, that socket head screw likes to back out. If you remove it to put loctite on it, make sure you don't lose the steel bushing that goes with it.

Looks like he has a Gen 2 Mrod (from his sig) that bolt is on the bottom side of the breech in that model.  Breech has to come off to get to it.

Good pick up Curt.  I didnt even notice that.  Mine fix was for a Gen 1

one more thing to check, right on the top back of the breech (gen2) there is a screw. under this screws there is a ball barring and spring that adds pressure to the bolt. you can unscrew it to reduce pressure. I have mind very light.

Thanks, fellas for all the info. I'm gonna try Rdsail's fix first because I am not that mechanically inclined when it comes to AG's...I'll let you know the outcome... BTW,  I called Crosman about it while I was out in the city and the CSR acted like I was bothering him....So much for customer appreciation I guess,,,,doesn't he know we're the reason he has a job 


1602: That's a FIX!!!!! ...That's the fastest I've been able fire off 30 rounds since I got it! Nice and snug but, I don't have to un-shoulder it to cock it anymore. Thanks a million!!!!

To prevent galling/binding of the two different metals ( steel and aluminum ), I like to coat the bolt,  bolt hole, and hammer, with a light coat of a non-petroleum based product that

As with my marauders, I feel that with use, the action will get easier to cock.

Here is a picture of the bolt and/or hammer screw, used in the Gen 2 marauder rifles. The screw on the left is what is in my Gen 2 marauder rifle purchased in 2013. The screw on the right is what is in the Gen 2 marauder rifle I purchased September of this year. Maybe the change to a straight wall design, was due to cocking problems ?

OK, guys and gals...I loosened the bolt, as previously stated and it feels great. I didn't have time to shoot targets ( I just shot bottles) because I had to go out of town for a few days. I decided to take my M-rod to enjoy some small game hunting while I was away. Well, the morning of the day I hunted, I set up some targets to see if it's still dialed in. To my surprise my rifle is shooting 2" groups at 17 yds now and I don't know what to do 

Can anyone shed some light on my situation?
