Need advice regarding a pristine QB78 with an uninstalled (modified?) valve

I’m lucky to have picked picked up a pristine QB78 with an uninstalled (presumably modified) valve from a local GTA member. (Both were reportedly purchased from FD back in the day.) The rifle came with enough CO2 in the tube to get off eight shots. The trigger is reasonable, and I’m more impressed with this rifle’s outward appearance than anticipated from reading good reviews.
 
As expected, the QB’s innards are a real mess. Nothing is lubricated and most everything is filthy and gritty. Two of the barrel O-rings, and the ones on the bolt and tube cap are shot. Also, the slots in the tube (part 0100) and on the leading and trailing edges of the bolt assembly (part 1100) are "home-project" rough and need attention beyond simple polishing.
 
I ran into to my first problem during disassembly (aimed at general cleaning, lubrication and valve replacement), and could use some advice. Despite serious elbow grease, I can’t remove the hammer pin (part 0900) from the hammer (part 0600).

Sounds as if there is something wrong with the assembly, since the hammer pin should pretty much fall out when you turn the hammer upside down.  Both the hammer pin and the cocking pin should just be setting in their holes with nothing really holding them in place except a bit of friction.  If you have not been able to get it out after expending serious effort, I would simply leave it in place, unless it is buggered up, since removing it does not allow you to do anything useful in terms of cleaning/lubrication.  If the pin has been mangled by your efforts, I would buy a new hammer and hammer pin.

Plenty of oil, tapping with a soft screwdriver handle and a few minutes of ultrasound loosened the rust enough to pull it out. Everything looks to be in good shape. Once the once the corrosion is removed from both parts, reassembly should be a snap.

Now it's time to fake up a valve removal tool.

I cleaned the pin, put in a drill chuck, and reinserted it into the hammer with a dab of Bore Bright.
It came up "bright" after a minute or so at medium speed.

valve removal tool can be a section of 1/8 flat bar stock, or a large screw driver.

The latter is probably the easier option, plus the hour or so spent searching through my tools in the garage will get me out of some truly obnoxious yard work.
