Benjamin np vs npxl for small game?

So I've always done pest control around the house with an old .177 my dad gave me when i was a kid. I decided i wanted to get into small game hunting the largest probably being jack rabbits. I ordered the trail np in .22 but not sure if i should of went with the npxl. The npxl looks massive to me and the power might not be necessary for what i want to do. Did i make a good choice going with the smaller np? Ive done a search for this many times but theres only one other thread on the topic.

IMO, what you got will do the job. As far as the XL goes, if your not used to shooting springers/piston airguns you probably would have a harder time with that one, cause it is more powerful. Either choice should do the job though, now all you gotta worry about is a scope, if yours doesn't come with one. By the way, Good Luck & Welcome to the best airgun forum.

I have the XL 1100.. Though I have no experience with jack rabbits ( I'm from michigan) I was in your shoes before I purchased it. Though I wasn't in need of such power-my quarry consists of  cotton tails,squirrels and starlings. What I was after was speed. My shots range from 10-75 yrds and speed offers a much flatter trajectory..much less drop at extended ranges. If you haven't yet download the chairgun app. It allows you to compare different pellets and weights. And the drop at various ranges. NOW that being said the trade offs are significant.- the XL is a heavy gun. Nearly 11lbs. I topped mine with a leapers because the provided centerpoint seemed not up to the task of handling the magnum recoil. I also upgraded to a GRT III trigger. ( a must IMO) being a magnum. It is unforgiving if the artillery hold isn't utilized accuracy will severely suffer.. For me the pros outweighed the cons and I went with the XL.. Hope this helps best of luck

mine is coming with the center point scope. The weight was one thing since i will be mainly hunting squirrel i figured holding a 10lb rifle steady long enough to get a good shot would take the fun out of it. I Get tired of lugging around m4s in the military and there not too heavy.

I have the XL in .25 and its little brother in .22 caliber.  The XL is beastly heavy and very hard to cock.  Great gun, but a serious workout.  If you do not need the extra power, I would leave the XL out of consideration.

so the xl is more for lets say raccoons? We do have groundhogs here too that are year round would the np be ok for a groundhog? also what about the np2? any body try that compared to the np

i can get an np2 for 24 bucks more. Is it worth it? i hear that there not all that great but that could of been when they were first released.

I guess it depends on your budget. A D-34 is very accurate. I had rather hit at 800FPS than miss at 1000FPS. If your budget is a little higher I would say a Beeman R9. JMHO

Heck yeah, If you can afford a Beeman or something like it in the price range, go for it !!!

The trigger on the D-34 & R9 are miles and miles ahead of the XL, & the D-34 is cheaper than the XL as well.

Check or ask some questions in the Crosman gate.  The new CDT trigger upgrade for the NP2 sounds real promising.  Sounded to me like it was a better functioning trigger than the older Crosman NP models.

I can't believe anyone buys a $200 or more Benjamin when approx. $250 gets you a D34 - way better trigger and quality.

After trying enough different guns I'd never buy another break barrel that was not of RWS or HW quality.

By the time you add a good trigger you paid as much for the Benji as the D34 - and you have much less quality gun. 

And put both up for sale and see which holds value better and sells faster.

I've worked out some prety nasty triggers with a little love and polishing. Im sure i can work with the np. I dont want to spend too much on a break barrel since some day i want to go pcp. This is just to get me started and through a few squirrel seasons.

Best bet is a Charlie Datuna trigger. I have seen to many people regret not getting one after buying Chinese.

CDT triggers are mandatory, on anything they fit IMO.
