.22 CO2 Rifle Suggestion

It’s getting to be that time of the year again when I get to purchase some new guns.  Last year I built the IZH-Baikal IZH Drozd with all the modifications and a Crosman 2289 with all the modifications and I love them both.

This year I’m looking at a break barrel and a co2 rifle both in .22.  I think i'm sold on the Stoeger x20 wood stock for the break barrel. 

So far these are the co2 rifles I’ve found that come in .22.

Crosman Sheridan 2260MB CO2 Rifle
Xisico XS60C NEW MODEL Air Rifle
Industry Brand QB78 Deluxe Air Rifle

I mainly shoot 10 to 30 yards at paper and metal targets.  I get a little pellet splatter from time to time at 10 yards but shooting glasses and safety apparel is always worn.

Any real world input on any of these rifles??

I'd go with the QB78. I may be mistaken, but I think that the XS60C is pretty much the same as the Umarex Fusion. If it is, the O ring seal on the end cap of the CO2 tube has some real problems.

I have two QB78's, both are currently down waiting for new seals to come in the mail, one gun is about two years old, the other one is less then a year.  They both shoot amazing but I am less then happy with how they have held up.

A few days ago I ordered a Fusion, I can not comment on that, I was looking hard at the Sheridan....very hard but went with the Fusion, time will tell if I made the correct choice.

You left out what I think is the best choice, Hammerli 850, it is a little more expensive, and the adapter to use the smaller CO2 is a bit expensive adding another $100 to the price of the gun, but man what a fantastic rifle.  I have one in .177 and it has to be the best shooting co2 rifle I have right now....it does have another downside....it is a bit heavy, and those large 88gram c02 cartridges are pretty darn heavy as well.

If I was looking for a great target 22 co2 air rifle I would go with the 850, a bit more expensive, but a great and long lasting rifle.

The QB's shot very nice, it is just the leaking on two different guns that makes me thing the O' rings in them are real bad quality.

 For Co2 you might want to look at the Airforce condor/talon. Any length barrel you want. Any size Co2 bottle you can find, yea. .177, .22, .25, or any custom caliber barrel you want, or one of each if you like.

 Daisy Avanti, Benjamin Discovery (duel fuel), Crosman Challenger (duel fuel) not sure if the new Marauder is but the old one claims to be duel fuel also.  There is the Alpha Pro and the Drulov Eagle at Topgun airguns and I think Hammerli makes one also.  The leak at the fill cap on the XS60C has been fixed before shipment if bought at Flying Dragon.  Anyway these are that come to mind to add to list.

Nice but way out of my price range.  I'm trying to get a couple guns and stay around $500.00.

The Replacement Tube Cap for Umarex Fusion and Xisico XS60C air rifles overcomes three problems that are often encountered with the factory tube cap supplied with these air rifles.

1. The tube cap fitted as standard to the Umarex Fusion and Xisico XS60C can leak unacceptably. Leave the gun gassed-up and 24 hours later it’s probably empty..

2. The factory tube cap is also very complex. It’s confusing to operate and you may need to wait as long as an hour after releasing the CO2 from the gun before it’s possible to remove the tube cap..

3. In addition, the orange tube cap O ring is very soft. It swells like a balloon when the gun is gassed-up and is quickly damaged by blistering and cracking when the tube cap is removed - this leads to further leaking. These O rings can have a very short life before they require replacement..

The  Replacement Tube Cap overcomes the leak issues, allowing these guns to remain gassed up for an extended period.

It’s very simple to use. Just screw it on and unscrew after use. There’s no need to wait after the CO2 is used before removing this tube cap.

It uses a different, harder, O ring that swells much less, doesn’t blister and crack with use.

The only downside is that there’s no degassing capability with this tube cap (although some would say that’s another benefit!). Again the solution is very simple, just “shoot down” the remaining CO2 in the gun in the time-honored fashion, as has been done with generations of Crosman 160s, QB78s and similar CO2-powered air rifles.

Overall, the Arcer Airguns Replacement Tube Cap for Umarex Fusion and XS60C Air Rifles makes a great improvement to the shooting pleasure you will derive from these otherwise interesting air rifles.

what I found was if I took apart the endcap of my fusion and washed it all out, co2 would stay for a week

yesterday I took a 1/2" wood hole drill bit and spun it inside the endcap where the rubber seal closes off the release screw hole.  it was NOT even close to even there, so hoping that took care of any more leaking.

cleaning the endcap worked well and lasted two weeks

those qb types came from the crosman 180,easily found in good shape for cheap up to a hundred and some. I know where a completely redone and modified one is for sale for a 150. everytime I go to his house,I look at it.,saying I wish I could justify it.I have a few similar things,but they are not that. I am sure that mac 1 has one

But that has to be one of the most ugly things I have ever seen.

I freely admit I am not wild about plastic guns in general, I would rather all guns be iron and wood....and I would be faithful....but anymore that is getting harder and harder to do.

looks like it fell out of star wars or something....for me I would not own it just because of the way it looks.

I don't think you can beat a Crosman Discovery for what you want. You can find refirbs and used for under $200. Dual fuel so if you ever want to go HPA or pump you can. Easy to fill from a paint ball set up. Tons of mods available. Wood stock and it just begs for things to improve it. It looks good too! IMHO

I think the Benjamin Discovery is what I'm going to do along with the Stoeger x20.  I'm sure it'll cost me a ton in the end because of all the aftermarket parts but it will be fun tinkering with it.  This will at least get me a foot on the dark side to test it out.  Although, it'll be a few months before I have the funds to start.  Looks like the initial investment will cost around $600.00 for the gun, pump, trigger upgrade and new scope.

This hobby starts out so innocently fro a a QB78 for $150.00 to a Benjamin Discovery for $600.00   

I took on a 2289 build last year and had a great time with it and love the gun.
