Thought I'd show you my latest toy that I picked up new yesterday. It's a BAM41. These were imported by SMK over here for a short time. But owing to the quality issues being reported all over, they were quickly removed from the catalogue. This was the reason I believe the Benjy MAV77 version was never issued by Crosman. Hence, they hit the world market as BAM had loads to sell.
This one had stood in a dealers rack since before last Christmas. I bought it as a project for a very good discounted price. He told me that he was well happy to get shot of it (excuse the pun). Knowing what to expect in quality.... or lack of it, would give me something to fix up. Well what a nice disappointment it turned out to be. This is with doubt the best Chinese airgun I've bought. The blueing is first rate on a very smooth steel finish. There is no grating when cocked. It fires with a nice subdued thud. There's no twang from the spring, and I mean none.
Haven't had much time to play with it, so I've only put around 30-40 pellets through it. I've only tried ten yard targets and this puts pellet on pellet using AA fields. Which Air Arms will no doubt be very happy to know, since it's a copy of their TX200.
Once it has had a tin of pellets through it, I will give it a tear down, tune up and a re-lube.
There we have it folks, something different for you to look at.

Check the torque on the nut behind the but.

what if we removed all the warning labels, and let nature take it's course?

To bad that they changed the design from the B40. I've heard reports that the quality control on the B41s isn't as good as the B40, and the loss of the shroud is a definite loss.

I take all my photo's on top of this unused little hen house. It has a a nice flat ridge the rifles balance well on. Haven't had one fall off yet Scott.
There are few detrimental changes between the 40 and 41. This is what happens when a large company dictates a price point to produce something cheaper. Something has to give. The shroud was removed. A sealed trigger unit replaces the take apart one. Internally the the twin piston ring has been replaced with just one. A cheap plastic cocking lever housing replaced the fixed neat metal one. The stock has lost it's pressed chequering. The annoying thing is IMO, Bam could have carried on with the B40's spec at the point of manufacture for probably not much more money. Trouble is “Bean counters” always get their way and the customer ends up with an inferior product. But then it's down to choice. I bought this as a choice and nobody forced me into it.
Am I happy with it.... to darn right I am.
