RE: Alloy vs Lead
Half the time I shoot in the basement where my cats also roam around a other times of the day. They play on the floor and then of course, lick themselves clean, as cats do. My pellet trap captures everything, so that isn't the problem. Each time a rifle fires a lead pellet a tiny amount of lead dust exits the muzzle. Study showed that this lead doesn't stay airborne, but falls to the floor. (see link below) I also shoot in the back yard, where I plant vegetables and the where the cats love to munch the grass. I know what you're thinking, this fellow is very accommodating to his animals, really &%%$&* whipped (LOL). Fact is I love these little critters and don't want them to come to any harm.
So that's the reason I prefer alloy. As for accuracy, I've found that the H&N Baracuda Green at 6.48 gr are VERY accurate in the Stoeger X5. And the Daisy lead-free pellets (5.6 gr) are VERY accurate in the Daisy 880. I do wish there were more heavier lead -free pellets and I've mentioned that to a couple ammo manufacturers.

Now the question of whether these Tin pellets cause more wear on the barrel is a good one, but someone will have to do the test to find out. Perhaps we can get one of the ammo manufacturers to do a small study settle that issue.

as far as im concerned, the tuners did not cut down barrels (i own several... but what do i know...). They did not cut it as the original choke would have been lost. Maybe a bit if a crown was not saveable. Venom, specially did not cut barrels. They generally tuned the HW77 and for good reason. as far as i know, no K model superceded a full size... even your phantomatic cut down HW97 started as a long barrel gun. Theoben cut downs?? no, carbine models maybe (evolution, SLR, etc... ) most of them (crusade, scirocco, eliminator, dualmag, had full size barrels... and better yet, they were designed as FAC guns first (only the carbines were made in non FAC power... and our good friend D. Slade answering to the need of the US market increased the power. As per being designed to ease your effort on cocking... That is why they made the R7... if you did not want to plink with your RX2, the R7 was more adept to your needs. The amount of air compressed in the chamber when the spring pushes it far out volumes the space available behind the pellet. which means that the air still pushes the pellet all the way to the crown. That is what efficiency is about, make it so the air blast is not so much as to distort the pellet upon exiting the barrel (air strippers anyone?) so the fact stated that some pellets will stop accelerating before they reach the end of the barrel is pure fallacy. it only happens on inefficient designs with undersprung setups. AS per the HW35 being a firearm... that rifle was always a mild gun... only available with a 500 mm barrel and then a s a Karabiner with a 410 mm barrel. The barakuda (ethanol injected gun) was based on the 35 design and as a such having detonation as a mean to propel the projectile faster, may have run afoul of ignorant authorities... but it was never classified as a firearm.
it helps to balance the rifle and improve the sight picture from aperture micrometric sights (adding to higher accuracy and finer adjustments). that is absolutely true but we are talking about sporters, not 10m guns. none of the HW models named here came with micrometric sights. The statement about PCP using the lenght of the barrel to increase speed is completely irrelevant (even though they have been getting shorter and shorter). In the springer the barrel lenght is very relevant in accord to barrel harmonics, and shot pulse.

also look at the fact that a lot of the target rifles used barrel weights... also to modify the harmonics of the barrel. Also form the history of your past post i can see that no amount of chit chat will make you dirty your hands with plebeyan airguns... is sad, as there are many gems in the rough, and specially where you are from the cache of older rifles of questionable provenance should be infinite... remember the relum tornado? You seem to have developed a true aversion versus spanish guns (that is a shame, but since is a loss to only you, you may never enjoy a good cometa, or a older Elgamo...) Yes, you are very much entitled to your opinion, but careful not to demean others people choices... As i said, your post history projects where this is going... I for one was only trying to help Al and his question... not trying to get into keyboard ^*%$#@ contest. And i thought that elitist were only populating other sites...
Oh by the way... you are right. I am sorry to have disagreed with you. I will make sure that i champion an R7 this year on the HFT nationals. what was i thinking by using this old technology longer barrels venom? I mean, with your logic and sarcasm i can't be beaten!!! thanks. Maybe this will make it ok to help this guy instead of wasting my time with this discussion.

I'm sorry, is this some kind of a joke?
As in all debates both parts try to present their arguments and explain their way of thinking, their experiences and the results of all their studies. What is wrong with that?
Unless if every debate is only for "show" as everyone must always at the end accept the other part's positions and statements and so they will all live happily ever after... In other words our "ego" must always prevail, whatever the cost (part of the well known theory that "there is no second best", "second place is for loosers" and all these idiotic "macho" stuff).
We only had an disagreement in some facts concerning our hobby - why must it always end like a gladiators death fight in ancient Rome? Aren't we adult people physically, biologically and mentally?
If not it's time to grow up at last.
Anyway I rest my case here.

yes... this is not a debate. someone placed a question and you seem to enjoy clogging the forum memory bank with an argument of which is best... no one asked... it will be moronic to believe that a gun costing twice as much as the other would not essentially be considered better... but to be honest he did not ask that. He asked about the BSA which you decided to belittle by evidencing the link with Gamo. I guarantee there are lots more gamos out there than HWs and for good reason... they are a better deal and good enough for the non elitist shooting that 99% of the airgun population does. So yes, his choice is good. If you are to offer another option put a comparable item there... specially when he stated that HW fares were way too high. Dont bash on Gamo because you dont know what he can or can not afford (or want to for that matter...). And no, not all debates are "macho" horn crashes. But if you decide to enter in one please have the courtesy of checking your facts. Or at least witness or test the airgun in questions before dealing "death" to any model, my Emperor... As i said before... you are right... you were before this discussion and will be no matter what... Thank you for your time.
PS: amazing... just printed a 20.11 mm. 5 shot group with a Flying dragon tune B26 in .22 (chinese made) at 40 yards... that can't be... nothing but an R9 could do that kind of group... I mean, with that crappy copy of the reckord trigger and a tune that gives a 3fps consistency shot to shot, its impossible. Instead of being so close minded... grab a cheapie, stop arguing and see if you can make them shoot like the more expensive guns... My HW95 might shoot a group like that... but it certainly will never be as accesible as the xisico product. its part of the fun, and the reason this forum exists...
