FDPCP valve seal refurbishment

I have a leaking valve seal, Mike  sent me a new valve stem and the gun now works fine. Since I am not smart enough to leave well enough alone I want to know how to fix the old valve stem/seal. I have nothing to base this on other than google image search, but I suspect it is not a concept unique to the FDPCP, since it appears all these guns work in a similar manner, striker hits valve, knocks it back and air goes past.

I need to get the old seal out without damaging the brass and find out what the heck to use as a replacement seal, ideas?

   Some of the early Crosmans were threaded, others were pressed together.    These, being a copy of the C160 valve stem, could be either way.     Once the brass is removed from the stem, making a Delrin seal to replace the urethane is easy.     Then just reassemble the stem and finish cut the seat.

Sounds like I would need way more tools then I have to cut a piece of delrin like that. I guess I will keep it for the future.

        OOops, I got the impression you had a Mini-Lathe.       Try using a dental pick to gently remove the old seal, and possibly a 90 Duro urethane or Viton O-ring to replace it.

   If you hit Craigslist for you area, you may find a larger lathe for about the same money as you'd spend on a Mini.   Like this one.  My old 10" Atlas was a C-note at an estate sale. (with bench and tooling).

I shall be looking for one of those soon enough. Not today though, wife's due date is tomorrow so kinda waiting on that before buying any more toys just yet.

I'm just glad I finished swallowing my coffee before I saw this. I love shooting the keys out of dead keyboards, but I prefer not killing them in the first place.

How I envy you. I keep looking, but one day............. the right one will show up!! I even considered an HF but NOT.

  John,   on C-list just search "lathe"   I just did for the SFbay area and there were two nice oldies for less than a grand each.   The Sheldon is the better of the two.    One's in Petaluma.

StevenG. to remove seals, orings etc. I use this: http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-pick-and-hook-set-66836.html . Cheap and doesn't damage whatever you are working on, if you are careful. I find dental picks are a bit too sharp.

Congrats on the new addition...good thing is you'll be so tired you'll already have one eye closed when you sneak out to get a couple of shots in between feeding and pamper changings!  Grand kids are great-just hand them them back to their parents and go- until they're old enough to teach how to shoot!
