need help on a 1377

I was given a 1377 phaseII  with a broken barrel band. the gun has a plastic breech, I looked on the crosman site and it doesn't look like I can get a steel breech for it. is there a possibility to get one for this gun?  the serial number is 484206288 so that's 4-1984.

Rear cocker with no bolt handle? Call Bryan and associates, get a barrel band for it and just shoot it. You will wind up spending more money trying to mod this gun. Get a new one and mod it.

On this one all I did is change the forearm and put a stock on it.

a Steel Breech with bolt handle can still be mounted to a rear cocker. the bolt handle will be just for loading the pellet, and you still use  the rear cocker function.

I've got a pair of those in the closet.  I actually bought the steel breech but had to hold off on the project until I get a new barrel.  The old barrel won't fit with the new breech....

   The barrel bands interchange, the steel breech will require a new barrel as well.(It's the bolt taper)    It is probably a good idea to get a new barrel anyway, as I have seen the effects of many years of steel BB's on the rifling of one.

You can barely see the rifling in the one I've had since a kid.  BBs are so fast to load!

 Hi Andy are you saying the barrel dia. is to large/small? crosman also says the rear site won't work.

   George:  It's the chamber and leade area that is totally different.     The early bolts are ~5/16 dia the newer bolts are ~.25".      A link that shows the old chamber.   The new chambers are a lot tighter.

New bolt on the left, old on the right.
New barrel on the left, old barrel on the right.
Don't mess with it, just get it working and shoot it.
Buy a new one to mod. IMO.

I only mod the newer stuff,  I feel like only reversible mods for some of the past models also... but that's me.

 I put the steel breech on my phase II.  As said before you need a new style barrel.  I also noticed the metal transfer port bushing was of a different size and would not fit the new barrel.  I used the icemaker tube mod instead.  The transfer port hole in the old barrel was very tiny compared to the new one.  You may also need the new style transfer port ring and seal for the new barrel.

George -  I think these guys have got the details on why the old barrel won't fit the steel breech. I didn't know exactly why before either! 

You know,  one reason I am not modding my "smoothbore" 1377  is because I don't want to lose the ability to shoot BBs!

   George, I have spare barrel band/ front sight.    If you want it it's yours.   It does have a brass dot added for use with a peep.

I also have a spare stock .177 barrel...(somewhere). it's never had a BB put through it.
If I can find it, and you want it, it's yours.

George,  it looks like you're also missing the barrel support that goes between the barrel need tube.  That would eliminate the gaps there.

The steel breech, new barrel, and a sight that will work costs more than a new one, but lots of folks spend WAY more on these things than they are worth. I left that spacer between the barrel and tube out of one of mine and it works just fine. Bet your breech is loose; clamp it to the tube and tighten the screw and see if the leak stops. I'd just get a barrel band and work with it. Couple nice offers here earlier in this post, tk

I recently restored a Phase II 1377. It had previously been owned by a U.S. Park Ranger who shot many chippers over 25 years of service in National Parks from Colorado to Alaska. Since this working gun had a history, I chose to restore it, not mod it. It came in bits and pieces with some rust on the barrel and compression tube, and broken barrel band. The barrel was trashed from shooting so many BBs. A kind member on another forum sent me a new old stock Phase II barrel. It shoots very well and pumps smoothly.
