My Phantom's spring broke...again. (I think)

When I cock it and the stroke is finished instead of just hearing the normal click I also hear a louder 'snap' right when it's finished cocking after the usual click. Also, there is a pretty hard catch in the middle of the cocking stroke, but that's been there a little while. If it is indeed broken I think this time instead of just ordering a cheap spring from Crosman and it breaking in another 1-4 thousand shots I think I might get a nicer one. I've heard of Vorteck springs and kits as upgrades, could I get one of those? What are my other options? (If any) Thanks for any information. Also, while I'm fixing it I'll probably replace the seals, too.

Air Rifle Headquarters has some real nice springs, look at the E3650 or Euro Tarantula and an apex seal...

Well I did think about that initially because this gun's twang and vibration is pretty bad, but I've heard a lot about gas rams leaking so I figure I'd be best off going with a quality spring. I don't know though, if anybody thinks I could be better off with a gas ram please tell me.

There's two versions of the Phantom, a 77 and 77A. Might make a difference in what it takes to convert to a gas piston. Do a search for Phantom and you can see where we discussed the differences. If you have the newer version 77a I don't think it would be worth the effort to convert it. Just my .02.

I have the older 77. I think I'll probably just get one of the springs Al recomended up there.

Gas RAM is a good way to go for a hunting gun especially if you are going to use heavy pellets
