Air gun lube questions

This is my first post on this forum, I hope I put in the right area.
Anyway I know the basics of lubing an air rifle like what kinds to use, and what parts to apply it to though I've never done it.  However my question is after the air rifle is properly lubes what keeps lube from building up in front of the piston as it moves back and forth inside the receiver.  It is my understanding that lube only goes on the outside edge of the piston seal but as the piston moves back when the rifle is cocked it seems likely to leave residue behind which could then be scooped up as the piston moves forward and get stuck to the front of seal causing the lube to combust.  Is this where the importance of only using a thin film of lube comes into play, and is there a method I can use when applying the lube to make sure I don't put too much on?
Also I'm about to start tuning a Benjamin titan np and I was wondering if I should lube the compression chamber and the piston with molly.  Charliedatuna used silicone grease in his tuning guides, should I just use that instead and are there any advantages to using one or the other and how important is crosshatching the compression chamber? Is it necessary?

Not sure if things like cross hatching is necessary but it may keep the lube tune lasting longer between tunes.  Charliedatuna's write up on spring gun tunes is of years of trial and error.  So take or leave it for what it is worth.  Some have converted to Krytox 205 or Ultimox lubes which call for a high polished compression cylinder.

I meant no offense.  I'm not questioning CDT reasons for using cross hatching, but since this is my first tune im a little nervous about using any abrasives on my air rifle.  I have a dremel I could use for the sharp edges but Id rather spend hours hand sanding than risk taking off too much metal.  Is cross hatching hard?  It seems like an easy way wreck the inside of the gun if im not careful.

I personally use the Ultimox type lube since I don't mind being a little sloppy with it to make sure it gets in all the spots it needs to be, it doesn't diesel and won't foul the barrel or destroy seals so all is good...

Didn't think your post was offensive.  If I remember correctly the cross hatching was to hold the superlube he mentioned which fills and stays in the 400 grit crosshatching grooves.  If not crosshatched it may not stay well lubed for a longer time.  As for the Krytox or Ultimox it works better on a smooth surface being that it bonds to the surface.  There was a recent post where the op was saying he couldn't get off his glasses.  So be careful if you decide to use it.

There are several kinds, i assume its the ultimox 226 extreme pressure medium weight grease is that right?

Is it difficult to clean out of your AG when you maintenance it? and how long does it last before you have to regrease?  I've heard molly can last a few years before a regrease is needed.
