Scope too big?

If this is in the wrong thread then i apologize and request that it be moved to the right one.
My problem is this
I bought a Gamo Bone collector bull whisper 22 and used the stock scope. I just bought a Tasco 3-9 by 50 mm scope to put on it
but when i went to put it on the tasco rings were to big and would even come close to fitting in the grooves. so i put the tasco on my stock rings and now the scope touches the gun. is there adapters that i can put on the dove tails to make them bigger to fit the larger scope

Just buy some 11mm rail scope rings that stand high enough.   I am guessing that the rings that your new scope came with weaver rail rings.

You probably have rings for a weaver base. You can get adapters for weaver to dovetail.

dainty little narrow parallel grooves = dovetail

big wide grooves with cross grooves = weaver or picatinny depending on how wide the cross grooves are

weaver, cross grooves are 3mm wide...picatinney cross grooves are 5mm...both types use a base "rail" that is 22mm wide..

the mounts/rings for both have some sort of cross pin or cross bolt that locks into the cross grooves...the weaver mounts, having a smaller cross locking system will fit on picatinny rail...

the mounts(rings) have different stand heights, some usually called out as short medium and high...


SCOPES..come in several sizes but the 2 most common TUBE are sizes 1" and 30mm....30mm is bigger and lets more light through..they don't crossfit at all...


you now have the basics to compare what's available to find what you need....sounds like you have Dovetails and a 1" scope tube and need High mounts...

after fighting with a couple adapters and several type of dovetail mounts...I can only dovetails on a high power airgun is a royal pine to keister!!

I am curious as to what you call a High Power gun?

On a 16FPE (868FPS with Winchester Domed 9.8 grain pellets) MSP (one of my heavily modded Croaman 66's) I have no trouble with Dovetails.  It is no more difficult than using the Dovetails on a low end stock power Crosman 760.

Now I can see some difficulty with high power springers.   Though a Springer is not the kind of gun I would want to put a scope on any way (they shake like a rattlers rear when you shoot) as you would have to tighten the mounts to Hadie and gone to keep it to stay still.  Though I do note that your sig only lists Springers, so I am guessing that you do not have much experience with other high power AirGuns, is this accurate?

 Hi Dillan and welcome to the GTA.
I hate to say it, but one problem i think you'll quickly come across is that the scope you've chosen isn't a springer\ram rated scope. This means it wasn't built in a way that protects it from the weird 2-way recoil that rifles like yours possesses.
The original gamo scope was built to handle this recoil but are not known to be precise scopes and may quickly aggravate you into giving up on springers\ram powered guns. No need to let them frustrate you, but if you use a few simple, proven components you'll find your rifle to be very accurate hopefully.

  The scope needs to be rated for springer recoil, and only a few are. A few solid manufacturers to look for are Leapers, Centerpoint and Hawke. Every product these guys make are made to handle spring\ram airguns. Other manufaturers like Nikon, Simmons, Barska, BSA etc. make airgun rated scopes but these will be advertised as such, most of their models won't work or work well.

 Those same companies make 1 piece airgun mounts that employ a "stop pin", a screw in the bottom of the rear ring that when put deeply into the corresponding hole in the top of your receiver, will stop the rearward movement you'll find that your powerplant almost guarentees if its use is not employed. These one piece mounts also use 4 screws per ring, 8 total and will hold your scope better than any typical .22lr or walmart special rifle mount possibly can. You do want to buy one of these mounts in the 11-13mm size, NOT a weaver or picatinny mount as others have mentioned.

 3rd is pellets choice. Most airguns dislike most pellets. If you buy any walmart or sporting goods store pellet, you may find your rifle never shoots them well, no mtter which you try. Occasionally you get a rifle that likes whatever..or a crosman or daisy offering but i find in 90% of my guns that only certain pellets really shine and usually those are made by companies in europe. H&N and JSB are 2 companies both known for making very precise pellets and most of my guns like them. One particular and very well known pellet is the 18gr jSB, almost guarenteed to shoot accurate as any pellet can.

 So 3 things for you to really get the most out of your rifle, an airgun rated scope, a one piece (11-13mm dovetail )mount with a stop pin, and some good pellets. Visit a good airgun retailer like Pyramyd air or Airgun Depot to find everything you need, Also googling airgun recoil, spring gun scope mounts, one pc. mount etc will help you to understand better what will work and what won't. Feel free to post and questions as you go, most here are happy to help and in the end you will LOVE your rifle..its a good one and with the right components will serve you very well.    Jeff
