Howdy Gents, new to the forum but not new to airguns.
Last week I bought the last Trail NP in .22 caliber that the local Brass Pro Shops had. It was the floor model which had a lock on the trigger and placed in the rack for the shopping public to have to look at. I had seen this air gun in the rack for months. It was cocked, so the piston was under constant compression for months. I got it for a bargain but was very concern about it being cocked for all these months maybe a year or so.
As soon as I got home I dropped a pellet in the breech and fired it. To my surprise it packed a wallop and very loud report. Deiseling and smoke. I ran about 200 Crosman Premiers through it before I mounted the scope. For about the first 25 shots I had decent grouping, but then the scope went south and I had a hard time keeping the pellets on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. I did the tighten the screws routine but no good. I replaced the scope with an old steel Weaver 4x El Paso scope and the groups came back.
I have now shot about 400 pellets and it is still shooting strong. Its quieter, more stable and settled down nicely. I have to admit I was concerned but now impressed with it being cocked for all this time there is no apparent harm done.
It must be quite a unit.

Well, there have been numerous posts concerning the life of these pistons, and what may be the downside of leaving them cocked for extended periods of time. We've all seen the handling first hand of these AG's at places like Cabellas and Bass Pro, pretty scary stuff to say the least. That rifle may have only been cocked once, but I'll bet that breach has seen more than it's share of abuse. Says a bunch about the overall quality of these particularly in regard to the price point. Welcome to the club and continued success with your new girl.

Welcome aboard, and it's good to know that a store handled Nitro Piston Crosman held up all that time cocked.

I have one for mine. I average around 16.6 ft lbs force with most pellets. CPHPS shoot a 727 average if I remember right
