Shot the Rebel over the chronograph.

 FedEx brought my new toy today. CE Prochrono. Woop! 
 Haven't had time to test it much but I have some numbers. Only shot like 4 or 5 shots per string. I'll add better more detailed info with bigger shot strings and such when I get a chance.
 These are all from the Rebel at 8 pumps.
 
 CPHP 14.3 gr. averaged 641
 JSB Exact Jumbo 13.43 averaged 639
 H&N Crow Magnum 18.21 averaged 569

 I shot a couple of the 25.4 grain "JSB Match Diabolo Exact Jumbo Monster" (how's that for a mouthful) that came in a sampler. Shot 1 = 520 shot 2 = 517. I decided to pump to ten pumps and see what that did and got 550 and 553 fps.
 
 Everything seems to be consistent, no weird numbers. Can't wait to get a chance to get out and try the chrony on the powderburners.

 So if I'm doing this Chairgun thing right the 14.3 grain CPHPs @ 641 is coming out to just over 13 ft/lbs, right? And the Monster 25.4 @ 550 is 17.06 ft/lb ?

That's quite a good output... I have a .177 Rebel and after 8 pumps, besides the fact that I am semi-tired hahahaha, I am getting what I'd call an average penetration into my penetration block, equal to about some of my .177's rated maybe about 750-800fps with 8 gr pellets at a guess. I don't know what that converts to in foot pounds but I'd rate it at about maybe 9 or 10 maximum judging by how far the pellets go into the timber. I'd like to get a .22 calibre one for comparison as they are very cheap, but as yet I haven't seen any in .22...

PCP or maybe the pump up like these will or should, always be better with heavier pellets, being able to push them out with similar velocities as weight increases as opposed to a springer so it might pay to go for the heavier stuff to try and exploit this. Springers are more constant with their energy output, meaning velocities will differ,, while PCP's are more constant with their velocities meaning energies will differ over a wide range of pellets...

I know which pellet I'd use if I were in your shoes.. 17 ft-lb sounds pretty good to me...

As a guess only for a .22 JSB at 25.4gr, I hazard a guess that the BC could be, say, hmmm, about .040. That's just my guess now... EDIT later... I'll revise that to about .032, I just saw one and it's different looking than I thought it would be...

 Thanks. I did a google search and .040 is the only value that I could find. That's possible I suppose as the Exact 18 grainer has .033. If this is accurate, Chairgun says that a 25.4 grain launched at 550 fps still has 10 ft/lbs out at 90 yards.

Cool, thanks. .040, .044, it's close enough for me. I just think it's cool we have these tools now to narrow stuff down and get an idea of what to expect. Then can fine tune the variables with actual results. Odd though they came up with a higher value than Chairgun for the 25, but the 18 on Chairgun is listed at .033 and they got .020 .

 Oh yeah. Now I need a PCP that will push it at 950 fps into 1/2" groups at 75 yards.

A few years back I had a BSA Lonestar .25 PCP and that was giving in the neighbourhood of 45 ft-lb. I bought H&N Baracudas @ 31gr and JSB Exact Kings @ 25.4gr for it. Boy you did not want to get in the way of those - not that you ever would. I never tested it at those sorts of ranges but this was a totally accurate gun indeed...

 No doubt. I saw a page online about a European 100 meter benchrest match, it was indoors it looked like or at least covered. It was in German or something so I didn't get much of the text but in the results there were LOTS of Lonestars in like the top 15 spots, way out of proportion to anything else.

It was nice and sunny outside today, but too breezy for any real accuracy work so I did some chronying (is that a word?).

For an average of 623 fps @ 12.3 ft/lbs. ES 19fps SD=5  Looks good and consistent to me. Odd though, I got 640 fps with this pellet the other day.

I'll bet you are, that's one almighty handful of shots. I can tell you right now, that's more pumps than I could handle - 240 all up... Good numbers though, and 13 ft-lbs, that's quite a bit more than I would have thought possible from this gun, even in .22 calibre...
