Beeman R1 issues

Hey all, thanks in advance for the help.
I purchased a Beeman R1 from Craigslist yesterday. When I cocked it, I noticed creaking from the spring, a rattle when closing when cocked, and a loose ?latch rod? I think it's called, when the gun wasn't cocked. I realized the gun probably needed a rebuild, but for $150 it was still more than worth it to me.
I'll post a short video later once I get home again.
I have not continued to shoot it, as I don't want to damage the gun. I'm researching right now through old posts on what to order, but wanted to start a thread so that when I have my list complete, you guys can help make sure I'm ordering the right thing.
In your experience, do you recommend a stock spring or going with a vortek kit, or?
This will be a gun I solely take hunting; dove, quail, rabbit, squirrel and if I can get close enough, the bobcat that is bound and determined to eat my dog.
I have a great scope for it, and just want to get it shooting like new.
Thanks

If you have the budget for it the Vortek or ARH or even V-Mach kits should offer a nicer shot cycle because of the custom spring guides. A stock spring I'm sure would be fine though. I would have a replacement piston seal on hand also just in case the existing one is damaged. Also check the breech seal. BTW what caliber? What scope and mount will you be using? Good luck with it and keep us informed on what you decide and how it turns out. I have to confess a little jealousy when I hear about awesome deals like this.

I fixed my signature. I had ordered a tuned xs -25, but when I found this gun I cancelled the order and am putting the Hawke Sport HD IR 4-12x50 AO on this gun. It has a one peice Bkl high mount setup for the scope.
This one.
The gun is a. 20 cal. I'll look into those kits you mentioned.
Thanks man.

I prefer JM kits over Vortek. I would order everything from him.

You won't know what is wrong until you open it.
Since you got it at such a low price, it is worth putting money into it.

As of right now, I'm planning on ordering these two items, am I missing anything?

Here is a video of what I'm trying to address.
Edit, posted at the same time as you, Jim.
Guess i should probably build a spring compressor now and take it apart.
Thanks for the list.

well IMO from your video the lose cocking arm you may not be able to fix? you'll probably need to buy a newer style cocking shoe! as they do break over time due to stretching from use! and if you power up the spring it will probably break! secondly the noise your hearing is the spring for the piston! which will be addressed with lube and polishing or a new spring set up lubed correctly should eliminate the noise in the power plant JMO

Sounds like play in the cocking shoe and grinding from a broken spring or dented piston liner.

Thanks for the talk, and recommendations, Mark. I spoke with Pomona air rifles, and he has the parts I need, and will show me how to do it when he installs them, so I'll be going there next weekend.
Thanks again, all.

These are really easy to take apart, and can be done without a compressor. There is not much preload on the spring. Great find, tk
