Webley Patriot question

I have heard that the Patriot is made by Hatsan actually and essentially a Hatsan 135 for the most part.  If so, why is there a big difference in claimed fps if Hatsan is making them on the same power plant and should be using same pellet for test results?

I want to buy the Patriot for a good springer in .25 caliber but really think if it is a 135 for $100 less why not the 135 for Vortek makes a tune kit for these two that is identical.

Just wanting feedback from those who have a Patriot they bought recently and if you have had both and can compare apples to grapes here would be great.

As far as I know there are 2 versions of the Patriot, Hatsan made and UK made. For the money I would just get a 135, maybe the QC on the Webley/Hatsan is better? I think the tune kit is for the UK version but I might be wrong?

That Patriot is not a Hatsan rebuild.
It's the other way around.
The 135 is built using a Patriot base.
All according to Webley&Scott UK.
I don't know what the Hatsan is like but the Patriot is a sweet rifle.
Very accurate and not very hold sensitive.
I don't use the artillery hold, it shoots a lot better with a firm hold.
It's a 30FPE gun.
I don't think you will regret getting a Patriot.

I always thought the Webley Patriot by Hatson was the same as the 125 Hatson.  I own a patriot the was timed by Paul D.  It shoots very nicely.  I did a review on this forum when I received the gun about 2 yrs ago.

I think this is essentially correct. The parent rifle of many of the Hatsan powerplants is actually the geuine original English Webley Patriot. When Hatsan began manufacturing the Patriot for Webley, if I remember correctly, the same powerplant that Hatsan made was used in the 'Turkish' Webley Patriot,, the Webley Domin8tor and/or Hatsan 155 Torpedo,, and the Model 125 variants of the time. I am talking quite a few years back now, maybe 6 or 7 plus years, not just a year or two ago. The 135 is a next generation build slightly more powerful than the 125's and the others above. You only have to look at the list that contains the bore and stroke of each gun to see that the 135 is a tiny bit larger than any of them. I can't remember just where this list resides now but I was sure it was within GTA somewhere. Oh, I just found it,,,


In all honesty, the 135 is probably the most powerful springer out there. That does not necessarily mean it's the nicest. It is typical of the big Hatsans, eg.. H-U-G-E and HEAVY and is probably suited totally to either the .22 or .25 calibres. Forget it in .177, as it's just too powerful to take advantage of this small pellet... Tuned, it would have to be better than a standard one, surely, as lots of Hatsans are rough and ready as a standard rifle, especially the large capacity high powered ones and would definitely benefit from any form of tuning. For the first time yesterday, I saw one in the flesh. I thought my Webley Domin8tor was a big'un all on its own, but the 135 is every bit its equal in mass (weight and size), just without the underlever... When I first set eyes on the 135, my instant reaction in my mind and it was just one word - a four lettered word...

Thanks for all the information.  I like the looks of the Webley Patriot stock much better and it seems to be more in line to what I would like over the 135 which I have seen alot of complaints just on how huge the stock is and the abnormal action length on it.  Also the complaints were when scoped the 135 does not seem to fit properly in the shoulder pocket to some who reviewed it.

The tune kit by Vortek is for the Patriot/135 specific so that is why I started inquiring if these were made by the same company with the same powerplant.  Seems so other than maybe a few other slight differences they may be close in nature.

I wished I could get one for quite a while too, then one day it happened. A friend of a friend heard that I wanted one and Wham, it happened just like that within 24 hours. I payed top dollar but it was worth it. They are a unique rifle alright. At the end of the day, I suppose any powerful air rifle in .25 will do what you want and give you a thrill while doing it, but the original English Patriot was designed with the large calibre in mind and at the time, it was banned from being sold in England, simply because it was too powerful for their 12 ft-lb legal non FAL limit. Imagine that, they build one, make a darned good job at it but they can't sell it in their country, talk about irony at its height. In all seriousness, it is a well made magnificant air rifle and once you own one, you can see just why many people are after one,, for more than just shooting,, for the pride of ownership...
