Fixed parallax vs adjustable parallax

The more I read about this the more confused I get. It seems it doesn't make any difference on yardages we shoot with airguns. Thoughts?

Mr. Fish - at the ranges YOU shoot it makes no difference. At the distances mere mortals shoot it does. It's kind of like focus on an SLR camera. At 100 yards your focus is set at infinity anyhow and it makes no difference. At ten yards and an open aperture it makes the picture fuzzy if you don't adjust the focus.
Shooting at 100 yards is no problem. At ten yards, if you do the "head bob" you will notice the crosshairs move relative to the point of aim.
It is less obvious with small diameter objectives than large.

More clarification please, I shoot 10 to 100 yds. Mostly 10 to 50 yds. I am looking at buying a scope that has a fixed parallax. It does however have a focus. Is this just a misprint?

100 yard fixed parallax is for a POWDER burner .... You will have errors at closer ranges if your eye is not EXACTLY in the same place every shot.
And NO .... Focus on that scope is for the ocular bell only and NOT Objective focus as needed for parallax correction at close ranges.
Want a KILLER scope of like design ... tho AO focus ?

anything with an end bell adjustable focus AO as Scott said. or anything with a side focus will do the same. i prefer the side focus for ease of use. it is necessary to dial these in perfectly to get the best results. or as Scott said, you must have perfect shooting form and your eye in exactly the same spot every time. trying to achieve both perfect focus and being in the exact same spot every time will yield the best results.

There's many hunters that prefer a fixed objective. In airguns, the range is not very far. You can adjust many scopes to shorter (ie 35 or 50 yards), setting. Remember that just like in a camera lens, you can have a short setting, and anything past that is "Infinity", and it will perform well. The shorter setting allows more flexibility in it's "usable range", for the closer up stuff. Doing this eliminates errors to the point that "you" will be the weak link in your shooting, rather than the scope. Here's a few links that explain error, and a couple links on how to fix it. Just something to chew on:

http://www.airgunweb.com/take-aim-with-airgunweb/take-aim-episode-18-adjusting-parallax-on-a-budget-scope/
You can also purchase a decent scope that is already set to go.
This link is to the latest model of a scope that I have used on magnums, and think is a good hunter. I had to pay $10.00 extra for my first one, to have it re-adjusted, because I didn't wanna screw it up. Now I know better. Anyways,,, they now offer it in a good package:

Growing up in the 50's my dad took me fishing or hunting every weekend. I learned how to shoot cotton tails, shoot doves, quail, and prairie chickens on the wing. How to catch more catfish than a family could eat. We didn't have guns with scopes.
During my research on parallax I found this:

Although I did not grow up in the 50's, I did grow up doing similar activities as the OP with open sights as well (for the most part).
My older Brother is still and avid hunter and angler. After we both perchased scopes with AO adjustment, mine is a UTG Bug Buster for the QB-79 and my Brother some high dollar Leuopold for his Browning 30-06. We both agree that we will never buy another scope without AO adjustment.
Yeah...it makes a difference.

I will but fixed parallax scopes, but NEVER for a RF or AG. These guns are routinely shot at such varying distances the adjustability is almost a requirement.
Another aspect, by and large these scopes ''we'' use for our AGs are ''cheapos''. NO disrespect, I did say WE because I'm HAPPILY in this group too. What I mean is if you look at and compare a Leupold or Nikon or Ziess adj obj scope to a Center Point, UTG, Sterling or even a Hawke. Just for the AO portions, they simply don't ''look'' the same. The higher end scopes simply have better glass and because of it, the changes to the focal plane are not as noticeable. The higher the power, the more obvious the AO changes will become.
I have a older Leupold VXIII AO and a newer Nikon Monarch AO as well as a couple of the Hawke, UTG, CP scopes. The cheaper scopes seem to NEED adj more then the higher end scopes. All work and as I have said I will not have a RF or AG without a AO or side focus adjustment. But most of my CF high power rifles I don't see the need.
These facts kind of ''muddy'' the water in what a AO/side focus can do for you. I guess what I am saying is, The less quality optic will see a greater benefit from a AO scope. Its still needed its still a advantage. Its simply less obvious from better quality optics and coatings.
