I Think it's time for a Blue Streak Rebuild, But I May Need Some Help.

Hey Folks,

I'm pretty sure that I need to reseal a newly purchased vintage Sheridan Blue Streak that I just bought off Gunbroker, darn! I hardly got 100 rounds out of it when it all of a sudden failed to hold air. I can pump it with little resistance and when I discharge it, I only get a really soft report. I've tried engaging the bolt first then pumping it but there is still no change.

Anyhow, I have resealed a couple of old Benjamins but not a Sheridan. I do have the Benjamin reseal tools and one lead seal which I hope will work.

So, it there anyone here on the forum that I can call for some extra guidance. It's been years since I tore apart my old Benjamins. I know that these guns can't be too different. I'm just not too sure what other parts I should have on hand before tearing it apart.

Gents (Gals too) , I would appreciate some good old advise on getting this gun working again. Nothing like experience.

I just resealed a 1976 soldered valve Blue Streak. You'll find them very much like your Benji's. One difference is the Sheridan exhaust valve has a synthetic gasket in the bottom and a lead seal on top. The rubber seal tends to stay behind and get damaged on dis-assembly. Make sure this gasket gets removed and replaced. I used a thin o-ring in it's place. The lead seal on top is the same.

Thread the valve retaining nut back in and out a few times before reassembly to clean out any lead remaining in the threads.

I used four parts to re-seal the valve assembly: Check valve, exhaust valve, o-ring seal and lead seal.

Sounds to me like your pump cup is working but the check valve is not holding. All you get when you pull the trigger is a puff from whatever air the pump cup is holding. My gun had the same symptom. I replaced the pump cup as well since I had it all apart. The old gun shoots great, still accurate.

I'm sure others with more experience will chime in.

IMO if you have decided to repair your Dan then you most likely will need to remove the two pins that release the retention cap at the rear of the receiver. Then you can look into the tube and make a decision as to which repair kit you will need. Your choices are Mac1 or Pyramyd Air
for repair kits.

Mac1 is now using a synthetic o-ring in place of the lead seal.
If you have done Benji's the Sheri is no different.

Check this link to the Crosman forum. It really helped me reseal my old Blue Streak. The directions in the Pyramyd Air kit aren't all that great.

Save the lead seal - you may need it again.  The thin plastic seal in the PA rebuild kit is next to worthless.
