IZH 46M dry fire

Have read in more than one blog that the dry fire procedure for my 46m is difficult to implement. Reading the owners manual, I can not find any reference to how to do this. It only states that it is OK to fire the pistol with no pellet.
Anyone know how to dry fire the 46M ?

You can dry fire the pistol without pumping the cocking lever. Push the bolt lever forward, lift up the bolt to set the trigger mechanism, and reset the bolt without loading a pellet. The trigger fires with normal travel, tension, and point of release without actually releasing any air. Does that make sense?
It may be possible to dry fire it with air and no pellet, but I prefer to dry fire after only cocking the trigger mechanism.

I dry fired my 46M hundreds of times, with air. Haven't seen any ill affects.

You can dry fire the 46 both ways: as Arjuna described, and as Dockey 454 described. Neither will cause harm to your pistol. Any pneumatic airgun (single or multi pump, CO2, PCP) can be safely dry fired. Just don't dry fire a spring piston airgun.

Thanks so much for the info guys. I'm brand new at air guns so I don't really know much yet. So far have only fired a few rounds inside the house.
Seems there is no place to shoot in the Gretna, La. area.
Thanks again for your responses.

If you have 5 or 10 yards free in your house, you can have a lot of fun with that Izhevsky inside (with a good trap and other residents in mind). Check out the GTA shooting matches. I have had a ball checking my shooting progress and seeing how well everyone else is doing.
