Stippling The Stock On My Beeman R7

I purchased my Beeman R7 set in an HW30 stock sometime last year from the Yellow. I managed to introduce a few scuffs and dents so I decided to do a quick refinish of the stock. This was going to be an extensive post on the horrors of refinishing beech, but it  turned into a project of a much larger scope. The rifle was quite presentable as it was.

The HW30 stock is very smooth and I always wanted some checkering, but the cost was pretty high, understandably so, for a precise artistic craft. It is never as easy as Larry Potterfield would have you believe. Then I admired the stippling of the older 10M target guns and thought that I might be able to pull that off. One thing led to another and this is what happened.

Looks great! Can't tell tho, is that recessed into the stock and flush or is it just painted on top? Either way it looks great, bet it feels better too.

Stippling is a lot of holes tapped into the stock. I used a Dremel and four very fine bits to create the texture. Once I was satisfied, I stained the stippled areas, let dry and worked a coat of Tru-Oil in with a stencil brush.

Gotcha, I read the OP wrong  I read it as that you wanted to stipple but ended up doing that instead (thinking it was a textured paint of sorts) Either way, it looks great! Might have to try it out sometime...

Outlines were carved freehand with a Dremel fitted with a #108 bit, I believe.
