My 26 year old son stopped in for a visit this afternoon. He and my 22 year old daughter keep in close contact. I'm blessed to have them both for now, living in town. Son wanted to see his visiting step niece who's 6, and see my latest $10 creation. I have just in the last 3 days completed building a 4 foot wide by 2.5 foot tall and 2.5 foot deep steel contained airgun shooting gallery complete with spoon spinners, knock-down rabbits and squirrel with rope reset, 4 hanging swing targets, a channel for saltine cracker targets, and a section for bullseye targets. It's actually a galvanized and painted firewood storage bin my son needed to get rid of from his rental property. My son and I shifted it into place at the back of my wife's and my suburban yard giving me a 70 foot range. After" howdy doos", son, g-daughter and I got down to business trying out the range. Haven't had a chance yet to seriously sight in my Benji 592, but we all took a few trial shots to see that resets work. Fine and dandy results. I brought out the old English Webley Stingray .22 and some old Dynamit Nobel Superdomes, and we started popping spinners and rabbit/squirrel knockdowns with regularity. Spent the next 2 hours or so talking, shooting, teaching gun safety to our 6 year-old girl and drinking coffee (son and me) and Sunny-D (g-daughter). Son and I agree that this is a great and addictive past-time, and that the gallery was $10 in scrap stuff, time, and parts well spent.
Really looking forward to receiving the RWS 34 Saturday (Fed-ex delivery I'm told) and the Hawke scope I've placed an order for. Just wanted to share the good time had with you kind and helpful folks. Don

Thanks everybody for the positive responses! I'll try to photograph it tomorrow and post. I don't want the gallery to sound like more than it is. But my son sure loved it, and I do too. I used leftover International Harvester red oil based paint (it's what I had) on the outside, 1/4 inch aluminum plate for the animal knockovers and hang-down flipper-thingies, old hinges salvaged off tossed out doors, windows and such, steel tubing from a neighbor's tossed out metal glider, a leftover piece of steel conduit pulled out of the trash down the street, cheap stainless spoons from Walmart, pieces of plastic conduit for locking spacers, plywood off a trashed shipping crate, formed steel bar from long ago closet remodel, and scrap construction lumber. I made it so that except for the double thickness plywood replaceable panels in the back, wood is covered in plate to keep the lumber from getting shot to pieces. Son and I guess it weighs 150-165 pounds. Sure hope after I'm gone it'll be around for my kids to keep enjoying.
I suspect that from here on out, sending a few downrange each time one of the kids stops by will be a given. Even at twice the money ($20) it would have been worth it. Don

Awesome! Thanks for sharing that. My son is too young still (7 months old), but I'm really looking forward to father&son time like that! My father was like this with me and I hope to continue the tradition.
