New Stuff from China

Been really curious about what will be coming from the Chinese in the coming year. I had heard that the 2013 Shot Show revealed some new Ruger designs that are based on existing platforms like the Air Magnum and Air Hawk but with gas pistons instead of springs.

After a little looking, it looks like some of their new offerings are a BIG departure from those platforms, and maybe in a really good way.

The Ruger Octane looks like its based on the Air Magnum platform with some very clear changes as well as a gas piston powerplant.

The Ruger Talon which also appears to be an Air Magnum variant with gas piston.

The Yukon looks like it could be based on the Air Hawk platform, but again with major changes and gas piston.

There is also a Ruger Pheonix, but from what I can find, it might not even be in production yet.

One neat thing about these rifles is that the gas piston is installed "backwards" compared to the usual way they are installed. These have the gas ram body inside the piston rather than the rod inside the piston.

Will be interesting to see what kind of modifications like aftermarket rams will be possible.

That is interesting if looked at in the same tech as shock absorbers in how there also mounted?

Carry the Shocks body in the part that moves it adds to the weight / mass of the assembly.
Anchor the body and have just the stem move only the weight of the stem is added.

* So If these new rifles are carrying the rams body within piston, would translate into piston itself being of a thinner and lighter construction 

Not sure a design based on performance but one of cheaper construction cost

Neat for sure but I will stick to German and English springers and gas rams since I sold my last Chinese made rifle last year due to so many issues.

I'm on PA's pre-order list for a .22 cal Yukon (supposedly due in-stock by 7/1/13), and when I finally do get it in my hands and shoot it awhile, I'll let y'all know what I find.

my gamo big cat had the stem at the rear and body in the piston.

I'm looking at the Talon and the Octane. I prefer a traditional stock though, so wondering if old 28 and 350 stocks could be retrofitted.
