Cometa Lynx V-10....Gonna mod the heck outta this rifle!

Well, my Lynx arrived in the mail yesterday.  Pumped it up and put about 5 pellets through it to see what I liked and didn't like.

First things first, in my mind there is no point in having a single shot PCP unless you want to load them singly for competition or something. 

My other rifle is a Marauder and I have a pile of magazines all modified to take Polymags.  There are other mods out there where folks have changed the clips, I didn't see any reason standard magazines couldn't work.  Machined a brass nipple and soldered it onto the brass breech part.

Next mod is to screw around with the cocking lever mechanism.  I don't like how wobbly it is, and it makes me crazy that the probe flops out just enough to interfere with loading a magazine.

Well...next set of modifications...

Made the trigger 2 stage with a couple of small set screws, and got rid of the goofy existing trigger adjustment screw. 

The safety really didn't work at all and was in an inconvenient spot anyway so I took that out.  Safety worked with a ball detent, so I filed a small notch in the cocking lever and used that ball detent to hold the lever in the open position.  Worked like a charm.

My 2 gripes about this gun right now are: 
1:  What in the *(&^ is that locktite stuff they used?!?!  Have to heat things up and torque the heck out of them to get certain peices apart.
2:  Freakin roll pins all over the place.  I wanted to do more, but got tired of banging roll pins in and out.

I didn't care for the finish on the stock of this rifle.  The original finish is rather nice, its just a personal preference.  I wanted the stock to look and feel more like real wood.  The stock is actually pretty nice maple, but whatever finish they apply is pretty difficult to strip off.  I stripped off the original finish, sanded down the internal pockets and painted them black because you could see portions of them.  Finished with a medium gloss lacquer.  Here are some before and after pics.  The next project will be to rebuild the shroud.

So here are pics of the old and new shroud...feedback is welcome.  One of the things I'm not sure about is some shrouds I've seen have small vent holes towards the breech area.  I'm not sure if drilling a couple will improve the performance or not.  Its designed to allow the air from the barrel to pass into the entire length of the shroud.  I'll be painting all the aluminum black and clear on the tube when I'm sure I'm done screwing around with it.

Boy that trigger mechanism does look like they cheaped out. 

The next project on this rifle will be to replace the bottle.  I use a hand pump and this 400cc bottle is killing me.  Ideally I would like to have 2 or 3 smaller bottles I can fill and swap out.  This is going to be my new hunting rifle, I don't need 50 shots while I'm out for the day and this thing is going to feel "dang" heavy after stomping around the woods for a few hours.

I'm not really familiar with the bottle mechanism and valves and I really don't want to empty the bottle so I can take it apart and look at it.  If anyone has any idea how to make or where to buy swappable bottles please let me know.

Ok, so after shooting the rifle all day I was really frustrated because I couldn't get this thing as quiet as my marauder.  I was close to tearing down the shroud and remaking it.  Turns out the rifle was shooting way hard.  Decided to turn down the power, and found that the hammer spring adjustment is a complete piece of junk!  Totally stripped out the hex socket and still couldn't get it to move even after heating it up and completely tearing the thing apart with a tap extractor.

Made a new adjustment screw assembly and did a few more phone book tests (I don't have a chrony).  After getting it all set, its as silent as my marauder.

One thing I can say, this rifle is scary accurate!

Well, last modification for a while.  I'm on to other projects.  Switched the bottle to a more pump friendly 200cc bottle.  Decided to dress it up a little bit with some walnut burl veneer I had kickin around the shop.

Really nice job on that stock.. 
The poweradjustment works fine on mine, but it has a little twang from the hammerspring. Do yours have the same? And have you done anything about it?
There where two hammersprings with my Lynx, a short one in the rifle Could be adjusted from 190-240m/s shooting 21.3 H&N Baracudas.
The other one 12mm longer, and it can be adjusted from 230-275 with the Baracudas. I have just put it at 230-235m/s..
Inside spring was a loose pin... Do you know what its for??? Just took it out of mine... didn't change anything..

I'm doing a similar thing as you on the shroud.. Mine doesn't make much noise, but I hate the looks of that conical "thing" towards the block..

Mine had a little bounce.  Some heavy grease took care of it.
