The Weihrauch HW80 in 22 cal......recent home tune.

Just want to share my experiences as they may prove beneficial someday to someone doing a SEARCH. I just purchased an HW80 in 22 cal. Not the carbine, but the long barreled heavy one. Turned out pretty good, but mainly due to excellent aftermarket products. I ordered a HW80 kit and Bullet seal from Air Rifle headquarters. I already have the lube, plus I have some Krytox which I used on the piston seal and buttons. ARH Moly Pastewould likely do as good or better. I am just now trying this Krytox 205 on my piston seal is because it worked well on my HW95K 20 cal. I wanted to check it out in this rifle as well.
The first thing I did was pour a brand new gallon of oderless mineral spirits into a flat, long, tub that I bought from wal mart for about 5 bucks. It allowed me to put each piece of the rifle, including long barrel (after removing detent plunger and plunger spring, and breech seal). I soaked the entire rifle after disassembly overnite in mineral spirits. There was some metal flakes, and other debris in the liquid when I checked on it the next morning. I then drained each piece and rinsed it well in rubbing alcohol 97%. It works very well at removing the mineral spirits and leaving bare metal. (I used a 22 cal nylon brush, and from the breech end, scrubbed the bore of the barrel while it was still soaking in mineral spirits. You should have seen the cloud of brown that came out of the bore. But it took it down to bare metal. Afterwards, I swabbed out with rubbing alcohol)
I then replaced detent spring and plunger after liberally applying Maccari Moly. It REALLY makes a difference on a crisp yet quiet lock up. I didn't radius the plunger since I have the long heavy barrel....just a self preference)
I buttoned the piston with Old school buttons toward the rear of the piston. The key to doing that is to place the buttons, NOT at the widest part of the flared piston, but place them about 3/8 inch from the rear edge of the piston where the piston starts to narrow up. That way, I don't have to sand away all the button, and yet I still get full button contact on cylinder wall. The front of the piston was not heat treated so I bored three 1/4 inch holes and installed three pieces of quarter inch delrin rod. I doubt that they are needed due to the Bullet seal's rear wiper ring keeps the piston centered. I did it anyway, in case the seal is stressed while cocking. The front buttons will alleviate some stressing of the rear wiper ring of the Bullet seal. I HIGHLY recommend the Bullet seal for HW80's and I have used them with great success on HW90's. You WILL gain velocity and a crisper shot cycle. They are TUFF, and made of a harder material (it seems) than OEM seals. Plus, their design lends their-self to the high pressure generated by the VERY substantial and stout Maccari HW80 kit. This is about the 4th HW80 I have home tuned using this combo. I have already run 200 FTT's (5.53mm) and my velocity has settled in at 817 to 820 fps with a very tight extreme spread. I didn't size the seal. With lube, it seemed just right. I ended up putting a Williams peep site on the rear and putting the tiny round bead-type insert in the front globe. At 30 yards, with my hand resting on a towel, I can tear a ragged hole in the target. My next project for THIS rifle will be replacing the factory stock with a nice custom walnut sporter stock. What a beautiful combo. The cocking cycle is as smooth as hot butter on a sterling silver knife blade. The firing cycle is very much like an HW90 that I have owned.....just a single pulse. You know, there is NO WAY that I can make HW80 or HW95 cock and shoot like the pro tuners out there. But I met my goal. And I didn't even scratch the rifle up this time!!!! LOL Thanks for reading. (I can't wait to try some Barracuda Greens in this rig. My last HW80 LOVED them and shot them in the lid 900 fps!! And with stunning accuracy. But the FTT's are generally my pellet of choice for the HW80. These German springers ARE fun aren't they)

This is getting out a hand. I need to moderate my airgun fixation. From now on......just one a week. No more! (Unless I find a good deal)

Nice post, thanks.
Maybe just add some spaces between paragraphs, a little tough to read as one blob.
