Just received a new QB 57

I just received a new QB57 from ^&$@_=s. I paid for the Gold service and was pleased when the rifle arrived fairly clean ( a small chip in the stock varnish, but no biggie) with an accompanying 9 meter target showing the grouping and a Chrony report showing an average muzzle velocity of 705 fps with a deviation of 16 fps. The accompanying scope, of course, is in the trash and replaced with a BSA red dot sight. First impression is good for the price, a lot of fun to shoot, noisy, but with the Bull Pup configuration with the spring right under my ear, that was expected. Accuracy a bit iffy but I will have to shoot the rifle in for that to improve. I cleaned the barrel out (it was very dirty). Does anybody have any tips or additional steps to recommend. I would debur the crown but cannot figure out how to get to it beneath the muzzle brake and front sight assembly.

You have to remove the muzzlebrake to get at the crown. How I do it is by taking a hair dryer not a heat gun or you will melt it and warming it up for about 15 minutes or so until I can turn it then take a piece of wood or something similar that you can hammer on without causing damage and knock it off, to re-install reheat and tap on. I've done this several times to my 57's and have not had any problems, I cut a slot in a piece of hardwood the width of the barrel diameter to spread out the force of hammering and it helped. Both my 57's improved after redressing the crown.

Tried your suggestion Garth, but after 20 minutes of hair dryer but could not budge the muzzlebrake. My work around was to fit a Jewelers setting bur into an Exacto file handle (which fits neatly inside the muzzle) I could then rotate the bur and clean cut the crown. I then managed to find a long handled polishing cone, which i used to polish the cut. Test fired the rifle with surprisingly good results. I hope it will improve even more as it breaks in. Thanks for your suggestion. Perhaps the hair dryer wasn't hot enough ?

I have used only one pellet in mine (.22) and it is the crosman premier domes. Iht holds quarter size groups @ 25yds. Maybe if I had a better scope on it it'd shoot a mite better. The parallax setting is still a bit off @ 25yds.

I use the hair dryer on high, if it can be turned by hand then it should be ready to come off. I don't know if I should say this but you may need to hit it harder. Glad it turned out for you.
