Old eyes and the XS28M front sight......

After trying to zero in this new rifle,I was having trouble really getting the front blade on target. The very pointed sight, plus enclosed in the round guard was a problem for me.
I wanted to make it like the sight on my Ruger Mini 14...the real deal!
So off it comes and into the Bridgeport mill to cut down the sight guard. I also removed the tiny stamped tin pointer and drilled
for a .093 dia. roll pin.
I was guessing all the way about what the height should be,as the gun was shooting high, with the rear sight cranked down as low as it would go.
Put the pin in place,,,ground it down to what I thought would work...mounted it back on and gave the rear sight several clicks back up to mid level.
Wow... first two shots were right in my target bulls eye from 30 yds! Daylight was fading and it was getting chilly, for further shots, but now satisfied I could now see the larger pin and hit what I could aim at.
Sometimes you get lucky!!
First pic is factory setup....2nd pic my quick fix which I will put finishing details on.

I have been holding off an an xs28m for the reason of the sights not being fiber optic. I am going to my local hobby shop today and seeing if i can get some "fiber optic" plastic rod. It is usually sold by K+S, same company who sells metal rods and sheets commonly available at hobby shops.
I may try to make a new sight insert for my b21 using an acrylic disc with a hole drilled in the center, and inserting a piece of plastic rod into the center - then using that whole assembly as the front sight insert.

That sounds like a great plan. Maybe Mike can come up with a front sight option?
I was in a hurry,as Saturday was the last good weather day for a while, and just came up with a quick fix using materials at hand.
I have since painted the front sight pin with a high glow yellow paint. I use it on my powder burner front sights and it works well.
In the pic. of the factory sight ring, you can see I first tried painting the blade with the paint to see if it would help...but still wasn't what I needed.
