RS2 out of the box suggestions?

I just got a RS2, and have done nothing to it other than cleaning the barrel. (BOY !, it was filthy from the factory).
and figured it needed to get some lead through it to "lead" the barrel before I really tried to get it sighted in.
I have not even tried to adjust the trigger yet.
I ran 50-60 CPHP's through it just to start breaking in the barrel a bit.
I was bench shooting from bean bags at 50yds.
Man,... this is a harsh gun to shoot.... and does not hold hold any sort of recognizable grouping.
Anything smaller than a cantaloupe , needs not to worry at 50yds.
Granted,... I have recently gone to the "Darkside", and am getting pretty spoiled with my new .22 Mrod, where dime sized 10 shot groups are expected. I realize that I can't expect the RS2 to act anything like a PCP, but it should at least be able to do better than 4"- 6" shotgun patterns at 50yds.
If any of you more experienced and knowledgeable Springer guys have any tips for what "should " be addressed, tuned, adjusted, etc. on a "fresh out of the box RS2",... I'd greatly appreciate it. Calling the gun "Harsh" is really putting it nicely, (actually, it's dang near violent).
I've searched the forums threads for RS2 info., I've read about Polishing, "Tarring" (what the heck is that?) , Deburring, etc.,... but to be honest, I'm kind of hitting "Springer Info Overload", and it's becoming all a blur in my brain.
So what say you
if you were to just have a RS2 dropped in your lap, and you wanted to clean it up, and get it to calm down some without breaking the bank,.... What would you suggest it needed done to it?
btw- yes,... I am familiar with the "Artillery Hold" technique. It does not seem to help.
Thanks
Ron

Ron, I would suggest trying a variety of pellets. Some rifles can be extremely pellet picky. Double-check the stock screws. A home tune might smooth things out some also. Having said that, I briefly had a TF89 which I think is the same gun and had no luck with it, so I returned it. My experience aside, reviews of this platform are overwhelmingly positive and many, many have been sold. I think with a good tune and the correct pellet choice you will have a nice, powerful shooter.

Done couple. I've gotten just under an inch groups at 50 yards from em. Biggest issue with em when new was them being twangy and the breech seal not sealing well. They definitely need a lube tune, (moly lube, polished spring ends, polished tophat), which smooths em out big time. The breech seal is a weak spot. Sometimes shimming will help. Do the tissue paper test to check yours. After a full lube tune, chamfer of the loading port, and cleanup of the trigger, mine has almost 0 twang and is dead accurate at 25 yards and squirrel lethal out to 60 -65 yards. Great guns really.
BTW. Tarring is simply coating the spring with a VERY light coating of grease that is extremely thick in consistency, like, well, tar. Available from Maccarri at Air Rifle Headquarters and Vortek.
If you don't want the hassle of tuning it, I'd suggest sending it to Mike Melick at Flying Dragon Air Rifles.
