Camo Duct Taped Plano Gun Case

I used some digital camo duct tape to camouflage one of my double Plano cases.  It's still a work in progress.  I have one side all taped.  The other side is half done (the top pic).  I'll finish with as many coats as possible with some satin Minwax spray polyurethane.

First, I cleaned the surface real good with denatured alcohol right before laying down the tape.  I used the cheaper Duck brand of duct tape.  I used an Exact-O knife to cut the tape directly on the case.  Lots of meticulous detailed cutting that almost gave me a blister.  I rounded most of the corners of the tape, and only taped where the tape would lay flat.  The tape sticks pretty well after cleaning the plastic case with alcohol.  After I get it all taped up, I'll wipe it down with alcohol again, open the case up, lay it on some bricks and spray down with some satin Minwax Fast-Drying spray can polyurethane to coat the duct tape.  Thanks for looking!  It looks better in person .

Thanks.  Yeah, that was my original intent, but then decided to go all out, lol.  The poly should protect it a lot, and if it gets scratched real good, oh well, the poly will still hold it all in.  The poly will also keep the duct tape from deteriorating from aging, as most duct tape does.

Hey that looks pretty sweet! Nice clean edges! Can that digi/camo tape be found pretty easily at brick and mortar stores? I have to admit, I've never really specifically looked for any, but I might just have to now.

Not an expert when it comes to these things, but the polyurethane won't chemically interact with the material the case is made of, will it?

Walmart has all kinds of designs & colors of the cheaper Duck brand duct tape.  My local hardware store has some better quality (and more expensive) 3M duct tape in RealTree design.  I've already used almost 4 rolls of the Duck brand.

No, the spray poly is plastic based and won't do anything to the Plano case.  But, I'm going to spray the first coats of poly lightly, or else the duct tape will wrinkle up if you saturate it.  I did my pellet trap this way, and it worked well.

The industrial "outdoor" poly that you can get by the gallon (or 5-gallon buckets) that has strong vapors is a little different and easily wrinkles if put on too thick.  "Indoor" poly is more user-friendly.

I am not a fan of the digital camo at all, but you did a VERY nice and clean job!! Looks perfect.

haha. Thanks, guys.  Yeah, Vinny, I'll probably spray paint my other one with some khaki/olive/brown, and use some RealTree camo duct tape on just the inlay parts (like in the top pic), then poly spray -- This one with the digital camo is taking FOREVER lol.
