Pump inconsistency normal or no?

Some times my pumps work fine, other times they don't pump any air at all where I have to unplug then replug them in to get them started pumping. Sometimes they pump air fast with few pumps to reach top psi, other times it takes many pumps. There are occasions where I hear and feel air releasing through the handle where it's not holding air to pump it down into the rifle. I'm just wondering if these problems with pumps are normal or not since I'm new to pcp's.
My thoughts so far from my limited experience with them is that they seem to be temperamental where it would be more easy and efficient to just use tanks to fill the rifle.

The only pump i have experience with is the Hill. After reading buyers reviews on Benjamin, Fx and all the other pumps and peoples many bad experiences with most of then, all i heard was people just kept saying "hill" so that's what i bought.
Mine has not been temperamental, it just works. It is not hard to take apart. Also a lot of places sell seal kits. Most pumps you void the warranty if you take it apart. Not The Hill. I have emailed them and their customer service is first class.
You got a pump because like me, you probably can't afford a compressor and a "shoe box" compressor for $500, or jerking around with heavy scuba tanks that need inspection all the time. Maybe you should get rid of you're other pumps and give hill a try.
That, or crosman is coming out with a radical new pcp pump soon. I can't remember what its called but its a three stage pump and priced similar to the hill, about $300. And its supposed to be released in a few months...I'd be giving that one a try if it were available now.

I'd prefer to just get a Hill pump at this point since their quality would be superior to Crosman, especially since the price would be in the same range. It will be interesting to hear the feedback on the new pump though.
