Lemak Condor .25 takes its 1st Country Rat

Tonight I put the cat food out for this outdoor cat that hangs around the house, and my my wife and I have been feeding, and figured I 'd go to bed early because I had been working since 6am and most of the day and night and was very tired. 

No sooner did I go to bed, I hear the Ding Donger go off at just 10pm as I was about to turn it off!  I thought it was hopefully the cat that my wife likes so much, but curiosity made me get out of bed just to make sure.  It was a possum standing up on its hind legs trying to get to the food tray on top of the chair.  I watched it as it was getting closer and I was suprised it could stand up like a cat and its head was right there.  But it wanted to knock the metal tray over. It didn't like it on of the chair.  Well I couldn't have that because then the cat food would be all over the ground and the skunks will make quick work of it.  The skunks cannot reach it up on the plastic lawn chair which is why I put it on the chair.

I grabbed the Lemak Condor .25 and loaded a 31gr Kodiak.  I return to my sniping position and the country rat had the tray tilted and almost off the chair from the side.  I could see its head partially through the arm of the chair but not that great at 22yds out.  I decided to take the shot since it was ready to knock the tray over.  It was moving its head up & down and it wasn't stationary.  Nevertheless I squeezed the trigger when I thought I had a decent broadside shot and heard a loud "thwak".  The possum went back like it was hit, and then crawled under the chair playing possum!  It sat there lying down and I could see some blood near its mouth, but it was breathing.  I could see its head better now, so I reloaded wondering what happened.  I got its head in the crosshairs again when it started walking slowly forward!  It went about 5ft and stopped again so I squeezed off another shot.  Upon impact I heard the loudest "CRACK", and this time it went on its side and then rolled over a couple of times and expired with its mouth wide open.  It wasn't the biggest one I 've shot, but about average size for a possum.

What happened was the 1st Kodiak hit behind its mouth/jaw, because it was moving its head and when I squeezed its head went up.  The 2nd Kodiak found its mark in front of the ear and exited the other side under the ear.  I went out to take some pics and there was blood everywhere.  I was skeptical about putting the oak dressed Condor .25 down because it was hard to see where the blood splatter was, and many of them are rabies carriers.  Then I heard the neighborhood come alive, with car doors closing, people talking.. so I packed it up and went back inside after I quickly bagged the country rat under the porch in the dark   So I 'll post an older pic of the gun, since I always include the gun in my hunt posts.

Well now I can go to sleep happy. I have to live vicariously through you, Jeff (lihunter), Shadow, Atchman, and Chevy 454 because my back is so messed up right now. Great job bro!

Good shooting Harry.  Awesome pics, look at the mouth and teeth on that sucker ! Betcha he could do some damage if he clamped down on your hand.

Jeff, I prepare it in 2 garbage bags and let it sit there for a few days to build up gas and a few maggots, until it's nice and ripe before I eat it raw

Dave now that's a good idea, except the tree-hugging moms that go along with the kids trick-or-treating would probably not find it so funny and cause some trouble for me
