B40 trigger is &^^&

My B40 has an awful trigger, let off is around 8#. This is not consistant and will let off at around 5# at times. I understand that CDT's GRT models don't work on a B40. The rifle is otherwise very sound ( a .22 that Chronies an average of 723 fps with a sd of 5 with Crosman premiers) I thought that it would get better with breakin, but after 2000 rounds, it's still unacceptable. CDT tuned my 800X and put in a GRT trigger, and I like the 3# trigger, smooth and crisp, I would like the B40 to be like that.
Any suggestions, including Tuners and after market parts would be appreciated.

May be if you talk to Mike you can just send the action without the stock may be easier and cheaper to ship.

I had a 22 cal B40....something is not set up right. I could adjust mine down so low that it was too low. Have you tried the adjustments? Are you getting both a 1st and a second stage? sounds like way too much overlap on the sears and its causing alot of drag. Trigger is a TX200 clone and works quite well. The one I had was great after some adjusting and inspection for the typical Chinese QC issues

This link should get ya going let us know what happens after an adjustment try

In most cases on triggers you may want to high polish contact areas. Be aware to much material taken off might affect functionality.

start from scratch to adjust, back rear screw out until it is just even with the top of the trigger or remove it. See if the rifle will fire, if it does then back out the front screw until it just doesn't or run it in until it does then back out. Then run back screw in until the rifle will fire. Should now be very light at release. Run back one in to get length of pull right, if to heavy then run front in and back out until it's right..or the other way around if to light

Don't forget this trigger likes to creep so I wrapped my screws with Teflon tape to keep them in place once adjusted.

Thanks fellas, I went into my archives and found my original owners manual and adjusted the trigger in slow steps. What a difference! According to my old rcbs trigger gauge the trigger is now a consistant 49 ounces with just a hint of a first stage and a super clean ,crisp let off. The three screws were a little intimidating at fist, but I endeavored to perservere (Per chief dan george) . The 1/10 th scale Ram at 46 yds now has pellet strikes all over it from standing position, could only hit it from the bench before I fixed the trigger. Again thanks for the advice. By the by I used blue locktight rather than teflon tape on the screws.
