Couple of new Boolits to test....

Received a pure lead boolit order today, with some samples thrown in to boot.  They were packed really nice, too.  750 boolits shipped for $90







     Along with the tried and true EPP/UG's (these weigh 155.8grains), I ordered a couple of other new-to-me designs to test: the BigLube ROA2 (225grains), and J/P 200 (202grains) designs.  The ROA2 has a double-recessed base.

     I ordered most of them un-sized, with a few sized to .454 for comparison.  Hope to get them tested in the next few days.  I'll try to get some better pictures taken with a nicer camera in the mean time.

Chris this is the 189 grainer out of a old obsolete RCBS mold that I bought that really caught my attention as far as accuracy and fps in the Gargoyle the other day . I see some close similarities between it and the epp 150 . I know I will be testing the 189 more .Marvin

Those "button-nose" slugs seem to be inherently accurate.  That is very close to the obsolete Lyman 452389, which ahs proven to be very accurate in my 909 (at 25 meters, anyways).

You made me go look . And it is a old Ideal mold 452389 . And at 50 yards the other day it was about a 4 shot 1 1/2 inch group and I was not really doing my part . Marvin

     The modify option came-up on everyones posts (not just mine), and I was testing to see if the board would in fact allow me to modify another's post.  It did!

Bump in the road.

The cocking lever on my 909 snapped in two (for the fourth or so time).  I tried to perform a temporary transplant using the cocking lever from my friends older 909....thought it would be a quick fix, but his 909 was made back when the quality was higher so his cocking lever is a bit beefier, and won't slide all the way into the hammer on my rifle.  I considered transplanting hammers as well but I really dislike tearing down my 909 (having to take the scope off and all) when it is running so well otherwise.  

If I don't get anything figured out by Wed I will be sighting in my buddies' 909 with the EPP/UG's using open sights for the sqwerl season.  I'm not about to transplant my Zeiss scope/BKL Rings.  Comprehensive boolit testing will have to wait until the cocking lever issue is resolved

Only place to get anything Sam Yang is PyramidAir (they are the only importers).  $25 shipped.

If you shoot your 909 much, your cocking lever won't last.

Hey Chris, I know you talked about it before, but what is your take on the 155gr ?

My 909s is shooting sooo good that I'm thinking to keep it stock and I need to order a bunch of slugs, and that 155gr seems the best one that covers all bases

The EPP/UG's are proven performers.  My favorite lightweight slug.

I just got some long-awaited shop space to work in last week, so I've been working like mad.  I'll try to get some shooting in next week.  Expecting to get a new cocking lever for the 909 by then.

Don't forget to ask for them un-lubed.  I ordered most of mine un-sized as well, as they drop from the mold at about .455 I believe.  I did ask for 25-50 of them sized to .454 to compare.
