I got the pnuema elite 10 and I dinked around with it a bit today. It grouped horribly with the crosman premiers. I got a couple good groups with the jsb diabolo 18.xx grn pellets. I'm only shooting 20 yrds though. Your posts have made me super paranoid that my gun is going to be a $)((# and I am going to be stuck with it. haha. I read the majority of all 9 pages. grrrr.... I hope this thing works out for me.

Melvin, I pm'd you. Don't be super paranoid (but a little paranoia is a healthy thing, imo). Keep the faith that your rifle can be improved. In the final analysis Coax has proven it's a good rifle. I'd follow his lead. Mine is shooting well for the new owner.

Darryl, you're a very nice guy! Must be a preacher after talking so nicely about these guys. I dealt with AOA and Umarex over issues with Hammerli, and found them both impossible to deal with. Customer no service. In the future I will only buy new guns from someone with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, like Pyramyd. And I will avoid Umarex at all costs.

I say ask coax about his experiences. He seems to be far more optimistic about the performance of his Elite 20. Also, you might try something a bit different: tune the rifle down to <850FPS with whatever pellet you're using. I trust you're using dome pellets. They seem to be the most stabilized design ATM. Or, instead of tuning down, try pellets heavier than 18.1 grains. Even at that, I can't explain (and no at AoA or UMAREX can either) why the repeater version seems to be less accurate than the single-shot version. The only multi-shot I own now is the P-rod, unless you count the two-shot FX Timberwolf.

Not much more I can add besides what is in the thread. It seems you may be in the small minority like Darryl and myself that didn't get a tackdriver out of the box. Under decent conditions with 5.52mm Barracudas, the Pneuma will average 0.8ish inches with the occasional 0.6ish. With the JSB Monsters it is averaging 0.9ish inches with the ocassional 0.4 to 0.5ish group at 50 yards. I am still contemplating getting a professional crown and lead-in job. I had to take the barrel bands off because it caused the POI to go up and down with the air reservoir pressure. I can't trash the thing because it can consistently get under an inch at 50 yards, but I expected more and needed it to shoot tighter so I could stretch the range out further. People say you can get the Lothar Walther barrel for $160 from Canada.

At this point, I will probably tune the power down using Bob's tips (where it also gets 40 shots within 96% of peak velocity) and use it for 50 yard max hunting, if a crown job shows no improvement.

I used Jsb monsters and got a good hole in one group I loaded up again and it looked like I shot the target with a shot gun. Not really, but it was a mess. I also have POI issues. Do any of you know where I can get that luther walther barrel? I keep hearing canada too but I would like a web address if possible. Thanks guys.

I dont think its a small minority. I think the Hammerli Pnuema Version of the AT44 Is a Pile of junk for alot of people.

The JSB Monsters I used were sorted. They gave more consistent groups. As far as POI, my gun definitely did not like having the barrel bands on and it was worse with lighter pellets. I usually shoot 4 to 8 five shot groups and average them. My average will be decent and then all of a sudden there is an unexplained flyer that will blow the average into the bin. As much as I'd like to, I'm not quite ready to throw the towel in on the rifle yet.

As many of them as there are worldwide, I would consider 4 people or so a minority. I will admit to not liking the fact that includes me. Everyone that had I problem, that I know of, has been the multi-shot too.

I got another reply from someone who put an LW barrel on his AT44 (OEM version of the Pneuma) Here's what he had to say:
"I would say 'it depends'
The Hatsan barrels are good BUT the machining on the transfer port and crown leave much to be improved. The thing with the LW barrel I bought is that the same Hatsan machinists are prepping those barrels.
So to get mine to shoot well it got a breech leade prep and a recrown. Then a bore polish with JB's bore paste. The bores are actually quite smooth as received but had it out and needed to clean it anyways.....
So my original AT44 barrel is accurate and so is the LW after the treatment on both.
What caliber and what inaccuracy is your friend suffereing with? which pellets?"

So I would follow his lead with your barrel, and not try the LW barrel right off. There is another source of LW barrels, and he'll cut one down to match your rifle, but you'd have to send the barrel to him for measurements; IF he has some blanks in stock.

are you recording your shots into a spread sheet. I'm sorry for asking, but I've lost track at this point. I was fighting an erratic-looking shot string as seen in the graphs. Velocities were very inconsistent from shot to shot for a while. The solution was not to hone or polish anything, but to lube the "mechanism" where the the hammer is inserted so it slid in and out smoothly. But only if the shot velocities are inconsistent. Otherwise, i think the best advice I could give you is to try something simple to help your accuracy. Re crown your barrel (or have someone do it for you, such as a local gunsmith). If you remove your barrel and check for nicks in the two o-rings on the barrel that's a sure sign you have a burr in the receiver. Check the holes drilled for the grub screws that hold the barrel. I found a burr on the forward hole. It therefore nicked both o-rings. Otherwise, try the re-crowning before you tear the rifle down.

To me the crown looks nice. I mean I have seen a pic of a bad crown and mine looks nothing like the pic I am thinking of. Daryl I need to buy a Chronograph. Here is what I plan on doing first off. Chrony and record a shot string. I will remove the barrel bands and see if that helps also. Depending on what info I gather from those two things will determine if I need to start really tearing into things. Do you agree? I visually saw a burr in the breech. I suspect that something could nick pellets on the way in. One thing that stinks is that the mag is in the way for me to see what is happening to the pellet during the load. I think I will use chop sticks to load a pellet to see if anything is mucking it up.

When this thing shoots good I am so happy to be shooting it. When it shoots bad I want to throw it at the target.

Melvin, I agree with buying the chronograph. There is a spreadsheet you can download that's all set for recording shots and presenting the shot string, FPS, FPE, extreme spread, standard deviation, etc. Free from a fellow airgunner. Each rifle is different from it's next door neighbor, but mine did not respond well to removing the barrel bands. This may seem tedious, but if you use a magazine to load a pellet into the barrel, you can then remove the barrel, and use a dowel or something to shove the pellet through the barrel if you want to see how the magazine effects the pellet). I never did that, but I did take the barrel out and load a pellet to push it through so I could see how it looked, judging the rifling marks. Of curse, get rd of that burr. I also polished the barrel, but I didn't improve a thing, but did no harm either. I hit the crown too, polishing it a t bit. Same result. I'm just oo m uch of a rookie at this.

Oh, with the chronograph you'll be able to see what power the rifle makes with the pellets you're using. I'm still learning, and while great speed may be life to a fighter pilot, it can be the kiss of death for accuracy. I'm being schooled about the B.C of pellets, and seeing that a lower speed aids accuracy. That's a general statement, so don't think your Pneuma has to shoot in the low 600s, as an example. I hope Coax chimes in about that. Or rsterne, the moderator. Those guys know their stuff, and I'm learning from them (just passing it along, really). I look forward to your test results.

Maybe you can link me to the spread sheet. I think FPS is not what is important. I think FPE is what is Important. So I agree throwing the pellet super fast isn't the best thing to do. I put JSB monsters through it and I can hear the difference in time between shot and impact. They did however hit very hard compared to the JSB 15 grn pellets.
