Tuning Tips

     Just got parts in from ^&$@_=s for Beeman S1. Replacing main spring, seal, rear guide. Any suggestions for tuning? I know clean, debur, polish spring ends, and I have heard about shims in piston, plastic or washers on spring end in piston, but is there some other things that you guys do to your rifles? Just curious.

Correct lubricants and quantities used ... Spring tars etc are equally important.

depends on the shooter.
If it is something like an RWS airgun, then I heat shrink the spring guide to make a tighter fit so the spring releases in a straight manner and I make washers from plastic so the spring uncoils quickly with no abrupt stops from sharp edges.

If it is like a crosman or stoeger which is a B18-19 gun platform, then I get crafty.
I use my drill press and dremel tool to fashion a top hat out of a hard plastic, which is from an old exercise machine which used power rods.
I remove the spring guide, knock out the steel guide and replace it with plastic as well. I do my best to measure and measure so I get it tight and right.
My stoeger has both done, If I was a pro I would use a lathe and would not have to reuse the heavy steel sleeve at the back of the gun the spring sits on but everything else is replaced.
It works like a charm and she shoots smooth and sweet.

you could also get a seal adaptor and so you can use a JM seal instead the factory seal!

Kiss it good night everynight. Lol you got the bases covered. Only thing i can think of is polish any washers or piston weights you add. I do that to all my rws guns that have piston weights. The smoother everything is the less spring torque gets rransfered to the gun.

Can plastic be wrapped around piston guide rather than shrink wrap. Reason I ask is because I'm not sure if I have right size shrink wrap( I should be able to get some tomorrow). It seems to me that the right size plastic would stay put because it is over guide and in spring.
I have been trying different thickness plastics in the piston to get a better fit for the spring. I have the piece cut to a perfect size that fits neatly inside piston without overlapping on itself. Makes a much better fit for the spring, but will this plastic stay put? Again, it seems like it will but I am new to this stuff.
Keep the tips/opinions coming!:)

If you mean firmly pressed against the outside wall, of the inside of the piston.. Then a drop or 2 of crazy glue to the plastic when you put it into the piston should keep it there.

Otherwise you would have to crip the top like a shotgun shell, but slitting the plastic so it makes a flat surface. Then you would put a SIZED washer inside the sleeve to press down on the crimps to keep the sleeve put.

Only problem with crimping is after a while the little tabs get beat to heck and break off.

Could be wrong but I think they are a direct sear trigger... no second stage.

Mine has a two stage adjustable trigger, identical to the current chinese Beemans. I got this one at a pawn shop for 50 bucks. I like the gun, but I am glad that I did not spend any more money on it. So far I have spent the original 50 for the gun, $35 for new mainspring and seals, and $30 for a centerpoint scope(sale).
